It's funny how forumites think they are the majority.

Title. It's funny to see all of these hate posts on these forums that say "No one likes Destiny" (in more or less words) like it's a proven fact or has a poll that's completely one-sided "proving" that people don't like something about the game(s). I just don't think forum users realize that most people don't even go near these forums. When I was playing raids with randoms, I was usually the only person out of the group that came here. Same with every other person I've met that plays Destiny. My point is, what the forums say are not a good indication of fans' opinions of Destiny because the majority of satisfied customers don't bother with them. If it were, there wouldn't be millions of people who bought Destiny 1, and there wouldn't be tens of thousands of preorders for Destiny 2. Inb4 the "Desticle," "Destiny fanboy," "sheep," etc. insults. Because most forum users don't like people having opinions that aren't "Destiny is trash." • What I find funny is that Bungie is more likely to respond to people on a 3rd party service, Reddit, than they are on their own forums.

      • Honestly... anyone that ACTUALLY participates in the game developer's forums are the minority. The majority of the players just cuss at their TVs, or play casually, or.... try the game/hate it/return it. I can't tell you how many people pre-ordered this game, and probably didn't even know there was a beta, or that they had access to it. There's probably even some that will just go to their local game store and say "Destiny 2, oh yeah, I heard about that, let me get a copy of that"

      • The point is that you don't know who the majority is either. I could say most people who are unsatisfied just leave without a second thought just as easily as you say most people who like it don't talk about it. The people here are the ones that care. That's the real minority.

        • Just posting D2 is trash, without a supporting argument, can be skipped over easily enough. However, there are valid negative viewpoints being made here. Don't disregard it all as trash talk. There's no denying that this game has devolved since the vanilla drop of D1. There's a lot of concern and dismay among gamers, based on the beta and the once again seemingly negative approach leading into the D2 drop. Let the players speak. If it's too salty, oh well. It's pretty apparent that Bungle is too arrogant to listen and make meaningful changes anyway. I, for one, find the majority of the posts interesting. There are some excellent points and suggestions, that just fall on deaf ears...Hear that LS.? No, I didn't so.

          • I rarely meet anyone in the game who uses the forums beyond the recruitment section. Which is a shame, if more good folks used the place there would be less whiny pvp kids and trolls clogging it up. Maybe D2 will bring some freshness to the place with more players active again. And yet more whiny pvp kids and trolls of course.

          • I don't think I have see a post where anyone specifically says they are speaking for the whole fan Base around the world because if that's the case then most the actual fan Base didn't play the beta either so not one person can actually say if it's going to be a success or not at this point

          • How else do you suggest players voice their opinions and concerns about a game they payed for? Yes, I agree... most players avoid these forums, however, most that come here are truly a representation of the community. When players were posting that Thorn was op... just because a million people never came here to post that, doesn't mean Thorn wasn't op. Stop thinking like a slice of the pie doesn't taste like the whole pie.

            • I think it's just human nature. If you're angry you get vocal. If you're happy a satisfied, you ignore all the overly hostile criticism and stay mostly quiet. Probably not the most effective way to go about it, but this can be most evident in polls. Just reading the forums, you'd think the D2 Beta was the worst thing ever, but most polls regarding changes are either evenly split or actually lean towards D2. Not all of them of course. In my opinion, regardless of the tone in the posted criticism, there is value in them. That is the whole purpose of a Beta, to get feedback...even if it does seem hostile.

            • While I would agree with much of what you say, there is a part that shows that you (most likely) strongly lean towards a certain direction, and that is where I would say it more impartial. You stated:
Because most forum users don't like people having opinions that aren't "Destiny is trash."
I would say something more in the line of: "Because most forum users don't like people having opinions that don't match their own." Everyone tends to think in a relatively narrow and single-minded fashion which generally keeps them from initially accepting thinking of other perspectives. When you think of something, you are most likely very clear on why your perspective is justified because you came to your conclusion and opinion based on a set of reasons which is logical and makes perfect sense to you This would lead you to be unable to understand opinion A and thus, be unable to respect it. For instance, if you present your friend with a set of facts that you would think would clinch your argument. And yet, while the facts you present clearly contradict your friend's position, you discover that presenting your friend with these facts does nothing to correct his or her false or unsubstantiated belief. In fact, your friend might even become more emboldened in his or her belief after being exposed to corrective information. A group of Dartmouth researchers have studied the problem of the so-called "backfire effect," which is defined as the effect in which "corrections actually increase mis-perceptions among the group in question." People typically receive information from what they might believe as an “objective” news report pitting two sides of an argument against each other, which is significantly more ambiguous than receiving a correct answer from an omniscient source. In such cases, citizens are likely to resist or reject arguments and evidence contradicting their opinions – a view that is consistent with a wide array of research.

              • It's been proven the reddit destiny community is more important to Bungie than this actual website's forum. A lot of information at the height of Destiny's popularity was made on reddit and directed at redditors in particular, in fact it got to the point where people were just reposting reddit threads on here. I expect the same treatment with D2 moving forward, for obvious reasons.

You complain that they assume most people don't like the game. Then you turn around and assume most people do and are "satisfied customers." I think it's safe to say 4 things at this point: 1. There are plenty of people who are on these forums who are happy with Destiny and plenty who are not. 2. There are plenty of people who are not on these forums who are happy with Destiny and plenty who are not. 3. There is no causal relationship between liking/disliking destiny and forum participation. Further, it is quite easy to purchase a game then find you don't like it. Also, it is equally easy to preorder a game hoping to like it, whether you enjoy the current iteration of the game or not. 4. You have no concept of logic. But, thanks for the entertainment. I enjoyed seeing this almost as much as watching videos of fat people falling down.

                  • OP is right. Also, Since House of Wolves dlc I think 90% of the posts I've seen on the forums are from people who have quit destiny but for some reason still read/post in the forums daily of a game they don't play anymore . #Logic

                    • When you spend a few days using the mute function the forums become a much better place. Granted there is a lot of hate on these forums but they hardly make up the majority of people playing the game. Especially when you go to reddit and the amount of salt / hate is much less. Just goes to show the different maturity level

Regardless of any of my objections, i have never once said that D1 is a "bad" game. I have expressed my displeasure at many of the negative changes that happennd to the game, and during Rise of Iron, all those negative changes created a much-less-enjoyable Crucible. Anybody that denies that is lying to themselves. You dont need to be on the forums to know that. Fast forward to D2 reveals and the Beta.... while i have been very vocal about what i see wrong with D2, i dont think that its going to be a "bad" game, though i do think it wont be nearly as fun as D1. Lets talk about Youtube: go to some Destiny, youtube content and you will see MANY negative reactions to this game. Those people dont come to the forums, yet they are voicing their displeasure in the direction of this game. Now onto my clan members, who dont post here and dont post on youtube: none of them are as excited for D2 as they were for TTK or for Rise of Iron. Some of them are getting D2 regardless. Some of them are not. So, while you claim that these forums arent a decent slice of the the playerbase's feelings, i am seeing this all over the place. A lot of people just arent feeling this sequel. Could all of these people be proven wrong? Yes. Will some of them never give the game a chance? Yes. Will some people love it? Yes. But the hype factor is low.... to deny that is just plain silly. edited for spelling

Game forums and subreddits give everyone a chance to spout off....including yourself. Bungie and other developers pay the lip service required but ultimately its just a space to vent/debate. I imagine most of the time they make changes based on their internals and I hope occasionally just because they are adventurous. I would imagine, for example, someone like Luke Smith does not care too much about what is posted on here. I know I would not pay it much mind. The anonymity of the internet allows for most of the nonsense but also the freedom to express yourself without fear of reprisal. I come here for information and amusement....in equal parts. Stay safe, guardian.

                        • I love destiny I don't like what bungee has done to destiny since ttk and it got better when roi dropped them got worse again. But overall I still love the game just don't like how bungie has handled it over the past 3 years. Destiny 2 is looking good from how the beta felt so let's hope it gets better this time around.
