What I want from Destiny 2 / Beta review

Hello, everyone. After playing the beta for a few days, I have come across some things that I feel are steps back from the original Destiny. I know it's still beta and things are subject to change, but that's why I am going to voice my opinion. This may end up being long and if it is I will have a TL;DR. Even so, please read all the way through if you are going to comment, at least that way you can somewhat understand what I am trying to say. Also Bungie, if you are reading this, please take this into consideration. This is just my opinion, some may agree, some may disagree. Destiny is one of my favourite games and I am really excited for Destiny 2, although from what I have seen there are things that could be improved from the beta. I really wish that we could have played a more recent build, especially if this one is months old. I feel it is an unproductive decision if the point of the beta is to gain player feedback. I will be structuring this into different categories for easier reading. PvP PvP in Destiny 2 seems slower to me and not in a very good way. Guns feel a little too weak and ability recharge seems just a tad too slow. I liked Destiny's PvP because of our different abilities for our classes, when we don't get to use them often enough and they feel too weak it becomes more a vanilla FPS. I would much rather have either a buff to the damage of our abilities or a faster cooldown, that way they seem to matter more. Even so, the guns feel a little weaker. Having a longer Time-To-Kill isn't bad, the guns just seem to not kill quick enough before I run out of ammunition. Control at this point seems kind of just like a run back from A to C, etc simulator. It gets old way too quickly, maybe it's just the map we have for the beta, but I'm not sure. Countdown on the other hand is great, it plays really well and I really hope we get a ranked version at some point. PvE The strike that we had available just felt drawn out. I feel a lot weaker in Destiny 2. Cooldowns are overly long for what we get to use, but I don't know if that's what they are going for. We have lost our light and all, but still I feel a little too weak for it too be fun. Again, all this stuff could have been balanced already. We should have been able to play a more recent build, that way we know what it would be like at launch. Here's hoping the PC beta is a newer build. Anyways, I haven't seen enough of the PvE (being there is only one strike) to really think of much more to put here. Classes and Subclasses This is the one I have a huge problem with. They are removing what I loved about the different classes, or at least dumbing them down too far, which is variation. This is a huge step back. I would like to pick and choose how my class played, variety is the spice of life after all. They should be adding more class perks and options instead of removing them. Even if the class build isn't optimal, if a players wants to play a certain way they should be allowed. More options for the player = more replayability. I kinda feel like Bungie designed themselves into a hole here though. Having only 3 elements seems very limiting towards creating new subclasses, especially since they are all based on a certain element. My point here is, please add more, don't take away. Doing things like this make people think that this is Destiny 1.5, not Destiny 2. Player Movement This is one I have seen a lot of people posting about. In a way I understand the removal of Titan-skating, but on the other hand I like to go fast. Moving around slow is one thing I dislike and doing this is also a bad step in my opinion. There are many ways to balance movement instead of alienating veteran players by removing movement features that we have used 3 years prior. A movement speed difference between classes perhaps, I don't know, but making us slow isn't fun. All it does is make things seem more tedious. Flying through and destroying all enemies in my path was one thing I loved about the original Destiny and I don't think it should be removed from Destiny 2. Customization This isn't much of what I want, this is me just saying that this is a huge step in the right direction. Customization in this game seems to have been upgraded in a great way. Being able to place shaders on separate pieces of armour, weapons and ships is something I have wanted since the beginning. I am glad that this has been implemented in some way. Weapons The weapon system in the original Destiny was great, having tons of different variations on the same weapon made the game interesting. It is one part of a looter-shooter that I like the most, again variation and all. Making all weapons a set way isn't fun. The variation and different rolls on a gun kept me coming back to Destiny, and seeing it removed I can't help but be a little upset. Leave the set weapons for raid equipment and exotics. Final Thoughts Destiny 2 has a lot of potential, but what I can see, they are making more steps back then steps forward. The fact that they have features planned for release, but don't know if they'll make it is troubling, especially with DLC only a couple months down the road from release. I'm making this post not to complain, but to share my opinions with the community and hope that my thoughts can reach Bungie in some way. I know there are those who are fine with what the game is gonna be regardless, and that's fine. If you made it this far, thank you for reading. I'd like to hear others opinions on it as well. TL;DR If you haven't read through, I'd really appreciate if you did. It took me a while to write and my opinions in there may not be 100% of what I am trying to get across, so a TL;DR isn't going to be the best way of reading this. PvP Feels a little slow and weapons/abilities feel weak. PvE Is a bit drawn out, cooldowns are too long. Classes and Subclasses Removing variety isn't what the game needs, the game needs more. Player Movement Player movement doesn't need to be slow to be balanced. Customization Huge step in the right direction, no complaints here. Weapons Removing weapon rolls, removes any reason to replay content where you already have the gear. It also makes drops less valuable. One last thing, I will be making a poll to go along with this post, it will have options for if you either agree, disagree or have your own opinion entirely. For those who pick the latter options or who have something to add I'd like to hear your thoughts. Thanks again for reading. - Lynx

Alright, I have been playing the beta more since the extension and now that I have had more time with the game I have to make some corrections. Although a majority of my points are still valid and I'm sticking to them, the beta is solid. The PvE no longer feels drawn out to me. I honestly don't understand why so many people are getting upset about this beta. I'm still really hoping on gun rolls coming back though, and the "streamlining" isn't just stuff being dumbed down. Anyways, still getting Destiny 2 and I have high hopes for it. - Lynx
