Far too much focus on PVP, we are here for PVE

The reason me and my clan play destiny is for the PVE, the PVE with friends in destiny is the best PVE experience around, but it seems with the press around D2 and especially now the beta that the balance and focus has very much shifted toward PVP, and has certainly taken away from the fun in PVE. The enemies are bullet sponges, the super recharge is an actual joke, ability recharge isn't much better, power weapons are USELESS, and movement speed and jumping control seems way way slower than D1. I appreciate this is a beta and things may change but it certainly seems as though the balance and focus is toward PVP in a big way, and there is nothing to show or suggest about loot drops/engrams (which be honest is why we keep coming back and back, like a borderline crack addition) that looks like any improvement on D1 if anything its worse. Amazing representation of graphics and base gameplay, terrible representation of the game's direction and content.

  • You're fighting against human players in the Crucible and you're fighting an army of drones in PvE. What makes PvE fun is being a powerful badass what makes the Crucible fun is the competition and proving your better against a real person with access to the same weapons abilities. They're not the same and should not be balanced as such.

  • It's pretty obvious by now that balancing does not and will never work, and it's pretty obvious Bungie has no intentions to change what doesn't work. Sad, because they could if they wanted to. I too am primarily PVE, so yeah I'm pretty disappointed as well.

  • To be more specific: -most weapon tuning in Destiny 1 was based off of PvP complaints. -the new weapon layout feels like a response to PvP complaints about shotguns and sniper rifles. -the two primary system is doomed to fail if we get nothing but bullet sponge bosses in the sequel. -the slower cool down times for supers, grenades, and abilities feel like a response to PvP complaints about players spamming those things. -more gunplay, less supers/abilities, and slower player movement feel like responses to PvP complaints about those two things. I have no problem with improving the PvP experience, but please stop doing it at the expense of PvE Bungie.

    • Now that the beta is over, and I've watched multiple YouTube vids on people's impressions I figured I'd finally weigh in with my own. Much like the OP, my clan is PvE-centric. PvP isn't even really an afterthought with most of us. For context, my highest Crucible rank on one of my otherwise max light characters is 3. Yes, 3. My other two toons are lower (and I have one that hasn't even broke into rank 2 yet.) So it's more than a bit painful to continue to witness "balance" decisions that are predicated on what goes on in PvP. With D2, those decisions have taken a quantum leap in absurdity with the ability/grenade/super recharge times. As many have already observed, those moments when you can feel like a total BA and pop your super or watch a group of enemies melt with a well-placed nade are really what define being a Guardian is, and those moments have become far too rare, at least using the beta as a litmus. I realize that with this being the beta and a months-old build, things are apt to change. Chances are Bungie was looking for a baseline without modifiers for determining what is a good working model once they introduce mods, perks, etc. I'm sure between the copious feedback as well as all the internal metrics they collected over the 9 days of the beta, they will make some key decisions to improve the overall experience for everyone, be they pvp or pve, sweaty hardcore or filthy casual. The speed is fine, sure it could be a touch faster, but frankly I like the level playing field without "skating" being a thing. I'm delighted to see the "sponginess" (spongitude? spongosity?) is being addressed. Recover rate could definitely stand to be bumped up just a skosh. Core mechanics seem to be pretty solid, and settling in to D2's movement, shooting, etc., was like putting on a comfy pair of slippers. Framerate seemed to be pretty dialed-in, and for all the kerfuffle over the whole 30/60 fps, it seemed buttery smooth even with all sorts of mayhem taking place on screen. Graphics and sound are over-the-top gorgeous, keep doing that! Very little in terms of complaints, actually. Our little clan is very much looking forward to all the new "extracurricular" stuff to do like the Flashpoints, World Quests, Lost Sectors and more. Basically, make us feel a bit more potent in PvE and resist the urge to treat pvp and pve as a monolithic unit; they're clearly different and really deserve to be considered and balanced on their own merits.

    • Thanks for posting your feedback. You share a lot of thoughts that I have read from other players and many of them are things that we agree with regarding enemy bullet sponginess(lol at this word), grenade effectiveness in PvE, and the drop rates of Power Ammo. You can read more about things that have already been changing from the Beta in the TWAB here. Keep the feedback coming. I'm making a report to pass along to the devs.

      • Agreed, to much focus on PvP in the Beta. I (and many friends) also enjoy PvE WAAAAYYY!! more, and exploring stinks on a strke, unless your doing something specific (Black spindle, etc). Should've been a littte more open world for us daily Destiny players. And PvP should also take into account classes (who wants to verse a team of 4 hunters.. overpowered in the Beta.) I like playing as a warlock alot, titan second, hunter least. The rifts don' t seem to do squat in PvP, titan barrier is not bad, doesn't seem to deploy in the intended direction at times also. How about extending Beta to some open world, would be nice. See you guys in September, good luck.

      • Pvp crybabies effectively ruined pve at least in this beta. Pvp players self centered attitude and claiming pve is easy and can suffer all the nerfs is ruining this game for many players. PvE player base is being slapped in the face with this beta. Grenades can't kill a red bar enemy and they take for what feels like an eternity to return and when they do u don't even care. In destiny 1 u we're excited for that and now who gives a shit. Yes enemies are above us in level but the amount of damage still put out is extremely low. Especially for something with this absurd recharge rate.

If it is accurate, I am disappointed and done. Might forget to bother checking out the dlc packages I bought already, just like division. Red dead redemption 2, hints of borderlands 3 development are becoming a bit more real. I'm SUPER disappointed that all the hype and all my excitement for this sequel and it's beta have culminated in my looking forward to OTHER game titles before this one even comes out. I'm hoping the game changes my mind in Sept.

It's tough to say power weapons are useless because we only saw a couple of them, but there are definite problems. Having 6 different power weapon types (grenade, rocket, fusion, sniper, shotgun, sword) for 1 slot when you have 6 different weapons (auto, hand cannon, scout, pulse, sidearm, SMG) to occupy the other 2 slots means that the heavy weapons are going to be largely ignored and laid to waste in your vault while the overall loadouts feel more repetitive. So if you're stuck with only 1 weapon to deal real damage, you can't have that be a sniper like we have in the beta which appears to be a fast firing and low impact type. I had a tough time telling if I was even out-damaging a Sunshot bullet, and that should never be the case. On the flip side, the fusion rifle is amazing in both PVE and PVP. It's probably the best weapon in all of D2 right now.

                • Thanks Bungie, after THREE years of getting user feedback you managed to make Call of Duty. So I guess I won't be getting a massive shared world shooter with RPG elements, a story, intriguing and interesting NPC's, exploration, and customization of builds. 15 year olds everywhere will rejoice this Christmas while sucking at raids and dropping N-bombs on Xbox live parties.

                  • Agreed, I feel vastly under powered for the sake of PvP which I consider an extra and not at the heart of Destiny. I do like the fixed perks for weapons, after all the best weapons of Destiny always were the ones which only came with fixed perks but "power" weapons as there description suggests, should be powerful and they just aren't at all! I'm not feeling the two primary weapons but one has an element either. Just feels like I'm playing as a weak ass guardian and unless there is a decent buff to so called power weapons, special weapons, grenades and supers I'm not sure if I'll ever love D2 as much as Destiny.

A lot of people are fighting this seperation with the excuse of "you dont know what bungie can manage to do with the development blah...blah" basically saying that maybe they dont have the means to seperate them. This is what I have to say about seperating pve and pvp and to all those saying that a company as backed as bungie pushing out AAA titles cant do this effectively. So, ive played a lot of rpgs that have a pve and pvp seperation, pvp has there very own armor and weapons, with special perks for pvp. You run into pvp with a pve load out? You are going to get wrecked, simply and to the point unless you are an absolute god with your build. Bungie was able to find all those cheaters in trials, ban them from pvp and put a lock on their trials gear so that they couldnt wear it or use the weapons at all. That shows me they are very much capable of locking pve weapons from pvp matches. Also, these rpgs Ive played, the developers dont have anywhere near the cash flow that bungie does and are able to put out solid pve content on a constant basis, have regular events and make loads of people happy across all 3 platforms. We need a serious seperation of the two.

                      • I posted this elsewhere but whatever, because I'll say it as many times as it needs to be said. This pvp oriented beta has been thoroughly disappointing. So much hype for nearly nothing. Goddamit Bungie, yes, once upon a time, you made this competitive multiplayer game that made you something. You let go of that something to make something else. But time and time again you insist on making this new thing Halo when it can't and shouldn't ever be Halo. It's a LOOTER SHOOTER. But the loot and the power it should give you is made irrelevant time and time again because the balance of competitive pvp you want to shove down other people's throats is MORE IMPORTANT. To quote this other space-magic warlock fella, THAT IS WHY YOU FAIL. And you'll keep on failing if you insist on making Destiny your new version of Halo. PVP is fun, yes. But it should not dictate overall enjoyment of the game.

                          • This "beta" is an attempt by Bunghole to bring their pvp to the level of MLG. Sadly, a vast minority of players think they're good enough for that. While those of us who like pve aren't even considered.
