A letter to Bungie, from a grateful fan

Dear Bungie, Allow me to start by saying thank you. Thank you for Destiny. I've been a long time fan, and have played most all of your titles. I caught word of Destiny back during development and was instantly hooked. This was the game I had been waiting for. A game I could really sink my teeth into. When alpha wave hit out, I did everything I could to make the cut. Sadly, it didn't pan out in my favor, but that didn't stop me from following along. I scoured the net for any info I could find. What I found only made me more excited. The day pre order was opened up, I immediately paid it off in full. Couldn't afford to big boy, but still was happy I was gonna have my game. Then came beta. I was extremely stoked and ready to drop in, but was sadly stopped short. My aunt, who had been diagnosed with cancer, neared her end, so I spent time with her. What little time she had out of the hospital, she spent with me while I played what little of Destiny beta I could. It was a fond memory I cherish to this day. She was techy, and could appreciate a good fun game when she saw it. Time after that would rough, but as a promise to her, I didn't let anything deter me much from my passion of gaming. The escape from all the crap that life has, to experience something that could get sucked into. Finally, release night. I of course was at my stores midnight release party. 3rd one out the door with my copy, still have the receipt in the original box. We rushed home after and started the load up, and without seconds of completing the download, I was lost in a scream of school girl like fandom. My wife laughed at me the whole time while I giggled and squealed, gasped and awed at every little detail. This, was my home away from life. It wasn't long before I joined into a strike playlist and started really having fun. That's when I met an odd couple. They were in a party together and I was a solo player, but we never broke the group. After the first strike we did more, and more, and more. Then suddenly, out of nowhere, I get a party invite from one of them. ET Scaeth, and CT Sardonic, q son and father duo, resepctably. They became my destiny family, or rather they became the start of my destiny family. We chatted all night, the 3 of us, with my wife hollering insults in the background as we all laughed and played and had more fun than should be allowed. That first week, we learned so much about each other. Like the fact that we only lived an hour away from each other. Never would we have met If It wasn't for destiny. We wouldn't have even known the other exsisted. We played as often as we could, but CT, later called Pops, couldn't make gametime as often due to work so ee eent from a team, to a duet. After that, the final member of our trio was found, in a place I hated with a passion. PvP was the bane of my existence but I still strangely enough had fun. That's where I met ShadowLordVegas. He was my enemy, and killed me 23 times or more in that first match alone. I was blown away by his skill and his weapons, and I wanted them. His Shadow Price was my wet dream of an auto rifle. Threw him a message, next thing I know, I have a friend request and a party invite. Nef, Evan, and Jeremy. We were the derpers. We played anywhere from 3-5 times a week. We all reset out schedules to have Tuesdays off and as far as we were concerned, that was the first day of our week. 3 nightfall, 3 weeklies, then race over to do bounties. This was our Tuesday ritual. Didn't matter if we were sick, or had to work we never missed it. It was OUR time. With each new dlc, we would just get pulled in deeper and deeper. Jeremy wasn't a local Texas guy like me and ET, but that didn't stop us from actually making plans to one day hopefully meet up. For me and Evan, however, it was different. After a few months, we decided that my wife and I, would meet up with him and CT for dinner. That was a day none of us have forgotten. We were at the restaurant for 4 hours. We went from total strangers meeting for the first time, to loving hugs and plans to meet again. Over the next couple of years, Evan and I, who are only a few years apart in age, would meet up every few months, drink beer, have dinner, and talk about every from life to destiny and anything inbetween. After we moved, we only got closer, our group. Evan would come by every other week, and we would sit in the living room, him, my wife, myself, and Jeremy on party chat so that our South Carolina brother could join in the laughs. This was our routine. This was our life, and we loved it. We were happy. As happens to all people, life took us by surprise, and we were hit hard by pack of work and funds, but it didn't stop our destiny family from helping us out when the new dlc for Xbox One hit. We didn't wanna lose what we had. This was our glue. Even my wife had started playing it, and enjoying it immensely. We were coming to the point of saving up for a second system for her when I lost my job. While that has put a hold on things, it hasn't stopped us from saving up, pennies at a time for a new system so we can play together. February, however, is when destiny became difficult for Jeremy, my wife, and myself. Valentine's day of this year, I got a call from CT. There was an accident, and Evan had passed away in the early morning hours. We were devastated. Even still, it's rather fresh. I couldn't play destiny for a bit afterwards. I missed him too much. Finally, after a month, my wife convinced me and Jeremy to get back on and do a few runs. It wasn't easy, cause all we kept getting were drops of gear that Evan loved. Finally, we both got legendary primary anagrams, decrypted them, and both pulled Hardlight. We immediately both broke into tears and sobs as we laughed. Headlight, was Evan's favorite. We were both there when he had gotten it in a nightfall. He was do proud cause he finally had an item neither of us had yet, and he was good with it. We, however, just sucked with the gun. Since then, we reminisce about our time with Evan, and are thankful more than ever noe for Destiny. You gave us a brother that we never would have had if it wasn't for this game. You gave us great memories and something we could continue on with. Money is still tight, but I'm still doing my all to save up Destiny2. We've all agreed that were gonna keep playing, for him. We're gonna hopefully play, on the first night of Destiny2, as a family, in honor of our own fallen guardian. Thank you for your time. Thank you for all you've done to give us something to remember him with. Thank you, Bungie, for giving us Destiny sincerely, Nefastus aka, Nef

  • People like you are a big reason why I want to work for Bungie someday. I love Destiny. The Destiny raids are the most fun experiences I've ever had in any video game. I will forever cherish the memory of beating VOG for the first time, back in the vanilla days. That memory contains even more badassery than the time I beat a Deviljho for the first time in Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate.
