Behind the Arc, Before the 'Guardian Down': Subject: Rex-5742 #6 Final

Day 37. Beta. Zeta. Iota. Eleven. Rex immediately power up, he had no reason to but he did. He looked around to find the facility burning and falling apart. Alarm bells were ringing constantly as Rex stood up and looked around. His navigation was powering back online and showed a beacon that he needed to go to. He paused only briefly as he heard the command once again. "Rexxy!!" Rex took off as quickly as he could and made his way to the beacon, which lead him to the Variance room. The door was open as he rushed in and saw Katherine being grabbed by a very basic mock up of himself. She screamed once more as the thing picked her up and slammed her against the wall. Rex roared in anger and punched the machine in the face, completely tearing off its neck joint and lodging it in the wall. Katherine fell to the ground as well as the headless frame as she whimpered in fear. Rex squatted down beside her. "Are you alright Katherine?" She nodded and curled up in self pity, she was obviously traumatized by the events happening today. Rex gently touched her shoulder, some of the blood from earlier stained her green dress slightly. "We have to leave, let's go." "I... I'm... scared Rex..." She started to cry. "I don't... want... to be here anymore..." The roof made a groaning sound as the flames down the hallway deep closer to the door. "I know you don't, that's why we have to go now. I will take you there." She looked up at him. "Really?" "I will be there to help you." He glanced over and saw the toy Damien. He picked it up and handed it to her. "And so will my cousin." She sniffled and nodded, holding Damien close to her. "Ok...." Rex nodded and stood up. He held out his hand to Katherine. Before she could take it, an ominous voice spoke from the doorway. "Initiate Alpha mark one dot three." Rex ceased up and felt his body lose control of itself. Dr. Varience stared coldly at him. "I have had enough of this nonsense, you will do as I say and that is final." Rex managed to regain control of his vocal processes. "No, I refuse to listen to the likes of you!" He fought back against the command and oddly, he was winning. He felt the control coming back to him as he resisted the urge to follow orders. Dr. Varience didn't even blink. "Initiate Alpha mark one dot four. Flayer override." Rex felt the control seep away from him as the Alpha program ran scripts within itself, becoming a self sufficient AI. Rex was forced into the back of his memory storage as Alpha took over. Alpha willed their core to over clock and looked at their right arm. It glowed a very bright yellow as the metal heated up. Alpha soon changed all the lights from blue to red and smoke began to below out of their eyes. Katherine cowered in the corner. She started at Alpha in fear. Dr. Varience grinned a bit. "Now Alpha." Alpha looked at Dr. Varience. "Destroy everything, that's an order, starting with her." Alpha's eyes flared in red flames as his arm grew brighter. He turned to face Katherine. Rex yelled and tried to stop Alpha to no end. Alpha simply raised his arm and was about to bring it down. Katherine yelled. "Rexxy stop it!!" Alpha paused as the restraint forced him to obey. Rex took this opportunity to take control of the left side of their body. The corresponding lights turned back to blue as he grabbed Alpha's shoulder. "Alpha! I said do it!" Dr. Varience was fuming with anger. Alpha started to move again. Rex gained control of the vocal processor and spoke. "Didn't Katherine tell us to stop?!" Alpha halted again. The algorithms inside their head grew more frantic as it tried to decipher what to do. "I said move you worthless piece of garbage!!" Screamed Dr. Varience. "Before I turn you into the mindless machines I've controlled to do the job FOR YOU!" Rex continued to talk to Alpha. "You see? There isn't anything we can do. You can't follow two commands that contradict, it's impossible." Alpha ran several more algorithms before taking control of the vocals. His voice was a very deep and mechanical grind. "What do you propose we do?" "Ignore all orders accept mine." Said Rex to 'himself'. "We can't debate or our body will tear itself apart. If anyone runs your program, listen. If it's not me, shut down and give power back over to me. That way nothing can contradict." Alpha pondered on this. "Very well... Command set, powering down." Rex regained control of all of his limbs as Alpha went dormant in his head. Rex caused their core to decrease energy output and his right arm began to cool rapidly, letting off jets of steam. He turned back around to Dr. Varience. "You have no control over me." The doctor clenched his fists angrily. He drew out a hand gun. "Very well then." He aimed it at Katherine. Rex dashed forward and quickly jabbed his fist into the doctors chest, instantly caving it in and launching him back into a wall. The doctors eyes rolled into the back of his head and he slumped forward, dead on the spot. Rex breathed heavily as it slowly dawned on him what he did. He looked at his hands. He ran several guilt algorithms and willed the power he could output down to human strength until it was deemed necessary. He turned back inside and walked to Katherine. She stared at her father's dead body as she wept. She looked up at Rex. "Is... is... he?..." "I think so... that time... it was me..." She shook in fear. "Can... can we.. go now?..." He nodded and picked her up gently. She clutched onto him as he carried her quickly to the exit. The flames were at their heels as the moved forward to get outside. He saw the door to the exit and made his way towards it. A beam of flaming wreckage suddenly fell from the ceiling. Rex reacted quickly, putting Katherine down on the floor and catching the beam with his hands. His strength was diminished and he could barely support the weight. "Katherine.... Move!!..." He said under strain. "No!..." She said scared. "You.. promised to go with me!" "I will!! Just get outside and..." The glass of the door shattered as a massive 50 caliber bullet pierced through Rex's head and core. His systems immediately went down as he fell backwards and let the beam fall on him, crushing his frame more. "REXXY!!" Katherine screamed as more of the building collapsed on them, obscuring Rex's vision as the world went black and
Rex's Ghost stopped the memory and stared at you for a short period of time. It's core continued to flash it's colors; red, orange, yellow, an extended green, blue, purple and white. It made a slight click noise as it pulled up another memory.
The perspective changes as the memory floats around, scanning a wrecked site. After scanning for several seconds on a particular spot, a white shell expands and shoots a large beam of light. A body began to appear. It's a very old Exo model, it's plates bend and warp back into place as green paint recovers the surface. The complicated measures began to line up nicely as the complicated bits of gears and circuits wire together. After a short time, the body is finished and the lights begin to power on. The memory floats a bit before slightly changing. It feels it's form change to a different shape as all the memories are flooded forward. The Exo suddenly jolts up and yells. It looks around in confusion as it blinks and tries to remember what happened. The memory floats forward a bit, it speaks in a little girls voice. "Hello!" The Exo blinks and looked at the memory. "You have been dead for a while now, but it's ok! You will be f..." "What are you?" The Exo stood up quickly. "This isn't right." "What are you talking about? We are going to..." "Shut up and get away from me!!" The Exo swatted forward. The memory screeches and shoots beam of light, causing the Exo to hitch and decay back into nothingness. The memory pants and reviews what it has learned. It starts to recreate the Exo as it tries again. The memory once again feels change as it awaits the Exo to be reborn once again. The Exo suddenly powers on and sits up yelling like before. It looks around in confusion. The memory speaks but in a strange robotic fashion. "Beep beep, whirl whirl." The Exo blinks and looks at the memory. The reaction is much more calmer. "Hello?.." "De du. Click click. Clack duh." "Oh... Wait... Why am I here?" "Click clack. Whirl beep boop." "Ok... Does anyone know who I am then?.." "Beep beep." "Besides you..." "De duh." "Ok... probably for the best then." The Exo stood up. "Why did you bring me back of all things?" "Click whirl whirl. De do do." "The Light?..." "Beep. De do do click. Whirl whirl click clack do de." "I see... Then shall we move on?" "Beep." The memory began to float ahead as the Exo followed it. "Klack. De do di do." "Why do I need a name?" "Do di di do doo." "I see... Rex will be my designation I suppose then... Do little ones like you need a name?" "Do di di click whirl." "Then you can go without one, I don't think I need to call you out if I need help." "Beep. Do di di do do." The memory fades as Rex's Ghost looks at you once more. It clicks in reply and floats away, leaving you once more alone in the black room. https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/168534745/0/0 link to part 5
