The LFG Test

Hello fellow guardians, So for a long time now I've been hearing rumors about how terrible LFG is to use for raids/challenge modes and I wanted to test it out for myself. I have not used LFG since the good ol days of VoG (Level 30 version) and I wanted to see what all the fuss is about it. (I normally run the raids with clan members.) To start out this test I decided to do three of the four raids (CE, VoG, KF) and use only LFG to put a fire team together. I also did this during the challenge modes to see if that added any difficulty. For all the raids I posted and I also messaged another post. (Basically I was the host for the raid then I tried being a member.) The first raid I did was CE and I posted the following. "Looking for a fun group of people looking to get both challenge modes done. No requirements but I do need a sword bearer." (I am personally a sword bearer but I wanted to see how hard it is to find a good one.) Couple seconds later I had 50 messages flying in. I got a sword bearer and 4 other guys to run Crota's End. Some of them didn't know what the challenge mode was but that didn't hold us back. We first tried everything except Crota which took us three tries. Then I messaged a person who had a post up. We first tried everything except Crota which took two tries. They were a solid group of fun guys. Moving on to VoG I had a few more issues. I first posted again with the same words as the last one (instead of sword bearer I put relic runner, which again, I can do I just wanted to see if I could find a good one). Within a couple seconds I had a load full of messages. We got all the way to Templar without dying but struggled a bit on this fight. Eventually we found a way that we could kill him easier and we got it on that attempt. (Overall it took us about 6 tries.) We attempted the Gorgon challenge but some of the people in the group didn't have dark drinker. Moving on the Atheon we had to explain the challenge to one of the guys which made us wipe a couple different times but eventually we one-fazed Atheon. (Took about 7 tries with some of those only lasting 20 seconds.) I then proceeded to look for a group (LFG). I found a post which looked suitable and messaged the guy. After joining I played through the entire raid with them and killed Atheon without having a wipe. However, I can say this has probably been one of my worst raiding experiences ever. The guys were super sweaty and ended up kicking another player because he died during oracles. They then proceeded to make fun of him for dying on "the easiest part of the raid." After telling them to shut the F*** up they threatened to kick me out of the raid. Also they made a ton of "your mom" jokes which can explain how bad of a raid it was for me. After that experience I was afraid to try kings fall. But I decided to do it anyway. I posted this on LFG and got some messages very quickly. "Looking for a group of guardians who enjoy playing and are looking to complete a raid with style." The team I formed was AWESOME. They weren't exceptional at the game but they were super supportive and fun always complimenting each other. We cracked a few jokes here ant there but nobody was an A**hole. First tried Warpriest, second tried Golgoroth, and ended up killing Oryx on our third try. Overall I had a great time and ended up getting some of the people from that group in my clan. I then decided to try one of the "sweaty" posts on the forums. The person I messaged had this written. "Looking for a group of people who know what the H*** their doing and have the Oryx challenge mode emblem. Also make sure to have black spindle." Normally I would just say F*** these dudes and move on to another post, but for the sake of the experiment I decided to join em. After joining the fireteam I realized how wrong I was about these guys. They all had on Oryx emblems and black spindle/sleepers but they were hilarious. The entire raid was just a huge joke that kept me and them laughing. Sure we first tried everything except Oryx who took two tries but it was super enjoyable. The guys even said that if we finish the raid they would give me their Brazzers account information (which they lived up too ;). One of the dudes joined my clan and we all parted with smiles on our faces. Before I left I asked one of them why their post was so "sweaty." He replied with, "There are a lot of people who take this game super serious. Always looking to complete the next hardest thing. Sure it's fun to take on challenge and beat it without failing. But its not the point of this game and its not how we like to play. I posted that so that I could get a couple "sweaty" people and show them what a real good time is on Destiny." Overall I wanted to say that LFG is not a bad place to go if your looking for a good raid group. I also wanted to restate what that last guy said, Destiny is a game about having fun. If you're not having fun then your playing it wrong. (AND NO I don't wanna hear that having fun for you is being super competitive, because trust me that is not fun for a lot of people.) Just remember that this is a game and we're a community of awesome Guardians who should look to help each other out and enjoy the raiding experience. Much thanks to all the fireteams I was in, I had a great time! -DrQuaxx
