You hit the grenade button. You die. Grenade never launched.

Has this ever happened to you in Crucible? You're one shot away from dying. In a last ditch effort, you hit the button to toss a grenade at an enemy team member. You die. The grenade never launched. You're 100% positive with zero doubt you hit that button at least a second before you died. Happens to me all the time and annoys the shit out of me. Kinda feels like I was cheated out of the possibility of a postmortem kill. What causes this? Is it the reaction time of the console controller or the console itself? Is it latency/lag on the XBox/Playstation service? Or is it latency/lag on Bungies end? Wondering what peoples thoughts are on this.

  • It's because of latency (not usual lag) between consoles. On your killers screen you haven't launched the grenade yet so nothing happens. This explanation also works for getting killed while running behind a wall. For you you've just made it to safety, but for the enemy you haven't reached the wall. To adjust for this game devs generally let the shooter get the kill on the runner. Presumably because they hate us.
