A poll for year one players!
The question is this: for those of you around in year one that experienced pure RNG for exotic weapons (with the exception of the few exotic bounty quests), do you like it better now that the exotic heavy hitters are quest lines?
I know that completing the quest line guarantees you get the weapon, but I personally miss the anticipation of completing a nightfall or opening and exotic chest hoping that I might end up with a 1st tier weapon like Icebreaker or Ghorn. Now it's more like "yay, another Suros".
Just curious what everyone's thoughts are. Do you miss the exciting possibilities like me, or are you happy having a guaranteed path to the weapon you covet?

1 ReplyBounties for a few exotics. RNG for the remaining ones. 3oC ruined that excitement of getting X exotic to randomly drop. 3oC has a lot of advantages - the excitement factor is completely gone though.

1 ReplyI want exotic weapon quests like the old ones for all of the weapons (Thorn, Bad JuJu, etc). That way people earn the weapon and it gives that feeling of accomplishement when you get it.

Ehh I'd say 50/50 there was times in Y1 an exotic would drop and would fill me with joy, but then you could go for days without any good dropping. But now with atoC it's like "meh"

1 ReplyI would prefer every single exotic item be linked to a tedious quest line, or even RNG quests like the Thorn. That way, its harder and time consuming to gain each exotic, i can pick which one to start working on, and maybe not everyone will have it.

I like the Quest setup. I got a few good Exotics from pure RNG, but most of RNG was just a sad excuse for loot. Too many bad Exotics in Y1 (keep in mind, most of them were improved for Y2). Completing Raids is still a great experience. They don't need gem drops to be worth it.

There was a point where Bungie wanted you to have a story for the exotics you grabbed, like you got thunder lord from beating Atheon on hard mode, they wanted you to feel like you earned that gun (despite Xur being the thing that ruined that idea just giving out exotics). With quests that sense of accomplishment and excitement just is not possible, you can't be like "I got Gjhallarhorn from a quest" and think that's something special as apposed to getting it from a nightfall you struggled in.

1 ReplyRNG, I miss the hunt. I'm not from the snotty nosed everyone gets rewards era, I like earning things in all walks of life. Not to mention the chase gives you extra motivation to play.

I personally don't really care to be honest. If exotics were the top tier of gear and you could equip more than one I might take an issue with them being easier to obtain, but at it is you can only equip one armor and one weapon and, more often than not, there are legendaries that can easily out do most exotic equips these day. Anyone that gets really bent out of shape about exotics being easier to obtain or "not being as rare" are probably just special snow-flakes.

3 RepliesWell... It all depends. I am glad that the good exotics are getting quests, but some are very undeserving. I understand all of ROI's Exotic quests, but not all of TTK's.
