From Rare to Legend - Upgrading old gear

Disclaimer: This is from the point of view of a hunter. My opinions are more heavily based on Hunter gear but after asking around, some Warlock and Titan friends have agreed with me on the following topic. Also, the referenced pictures are taken by myself and i should mention that i have been unable to acquire the correct helmet for both of the sets. So I have used the Celestial Nighthawk helmet as a control. Okay, so, after farming the Court of Oryx the past few days for those new 335 artifacts, I've come to realise just how good some of the Rare weapons/gear look in comparison to the Legendary gear you can currently get in game. Don't get me wrong, the Raid gear and a few of the Faction items look really good with the right shaders, but overall, items like the Bog Wild set and Aspriet set of armour could easily look better. Case in point; the Wolf Pelt Weave (WPW) set of Rare armour for the hunter class. This armour comes in a variety of sets ranging from the 1.0 -3.0, and the 'Zed' set. These items, being rare, have no use when the legendary items mentioned above come with the benefits of being legendaries. The thing they have above these however are aesthetics; the WPW gear looks amazing in comparison to something such as the Bog Wild or Factions armours. The symmetrical armour plating and metal tubes work well in almost any shader and provide a more pleasing view than most of the asymmetric armour pieces you get in the current legendaries. And weapons seem to encounter this problem too. Whilst there is a much larger variety of weapons than armour, it is wasy to go to Crucible and see the same weapons being used by a lot of players. Plenty of the rare guns have different and intriguing designs to the legendaries, with the only difference being their light level and character level (ie: 36 < 40) This is where my idea comes into play: the ability to Upgrade Rare items to their own legendary version that allows infusion. First things first; Implementation: As far as the amount of space it would take on your hard drive, it honestly shouldn't be much seeing as all you're really doing is copy-pasting some gear that already exists and adding in the infusion ability and increasing the numbers on the stats. Perhaps having only certain sets of Rare gear, such as the Zed variant of WPW or the Corsair's Revenge 2.0 (Hunter Armour), capable of upgrading would be a good place to start. This means that there is little space taken and the idea can be properly tested. As for the gears aesthetic, maybe making it so upgrading the gear improves the quality of the armor. Things such as a fresh paint job or polished metal could add that little extra pizzazz to the new gear. Function: The gear would be on par with other variants of legendary gear currently available to players in that it will have three columns of perks, have the infuse ability and armour would come with 1-2 of the three INT/DIS/STR stats (inherited from the rare gear). Upon upgrading, the stats and light level would increase accordingly and would function no different to how all other Legendary gear functions now. As for the names of the Items, keep the original name and just change the background colour from blue to purple to signify the change. How to upgrade: To upgrade the Rare gear to legendary status, you would need to have a high price. A good base to start with would be: Armour - Helmet: 2000 Glimmer, 25 Armour Parts, 20 'x' crafting material (same as used when upgrading item). - Arms: 2500 Glimmer, 30 Armour Parts, 20 'x' crafting material (same as used when upgrading item). - Chest: 2750 Glimmer, 35 Armour Parts, 20 'x' crafting material (same as used when upgrading item). - Boots: 2500 Glimmer, 30 Armour Parts, 20 'x' crafting material (same as used when upgrading item). - Class It.: 2000 Glimmer, 20 Armour Parts, 15 'x' crafting material (same as used when upgrading item). - Ghost: 2000 Glimmer, 15 'x' crafting material (same as used when upgrading item). Weapons - Primaries: 2000 Glimmer, 25 Weapon Parts, 20 'x' crafting material (same as used when upgrading item). - Specials: 2500 Glimmer, 30 Weapon Parts, 20 'x' crafting material (same as used when upgrading item). - Heavy: 3000 Glimmer, 30 Weapon Parts, 20 'x' crafting materials (same as used when upgrading item). Doing this means that you have to consciously want to upgrade your weapon/armour to the legendary status in order for it to be viable in the ever growing world of destiny. My Personal Thoughts: This change wont be a massive one for the game and I highly doubt that it will influence the way people play all too much. It will introduce some more variety to the end game as all the best gear is the same gear everyone else has, so why not have some more options to distinguish yourself. In my personal opinion, too many of the Rare items are pushed aside because they have no use in the game past level 40 so people never truly admire just how good some of them are both aesthetically and potentially as a proper piece of viable gear. So what do you guys think about this? Is this something you would like Bungie to maybe think aout, or possibly even test on one set of armour for each class just to see how it goes? Feel free to add or change stuff about this idea. The more its criticized, the more refined it becomes.
