I find it a little more laid back than Tokyo. I've lived in Shizuoka and Mie, and this is definitely the most comfortable of the three. Summers are grotesquely hot though, even for Japan. My place is on the 10th floor so at least we get a bit of a breeze.

Summers suck, even in Tokyo. Luckily for the past two I've gone to Australia (where it's Winter) and almost completely skipped out on them.

We went to Hawaii & Canada for two weeks but that still left the other 2.5 months or so... Worse than the heat is the fukken cicadas. Literally the assholes of the insect world. Spend all day shouting at each other or flying right into whatever is around. Lie down to sleep wherever with their legs sticking in the air, then get pissed off when you think they're dead and try to move them. Seriously. -blam!- those guys.
