Crimson Days, my opinion... Enjoyable

I'll start by saying, I am, in general, a PvE player, not a PvP player so those are the shades of glasses I wear and filter my opinion through. Also, while initially disappointed with it as a whole, thinking more about what this is, a small event, I am no longer disappointed, but satisfied. It's only a week long, but I can only play so often so it not having too crazy of rewards and requirements is entirely fine by me. Crimson Doubles The chance to play Doubles, really cool, I kind of hope it becomes a regular playlist sort of thing, or one of them thar rotating playlists but I'm not too fond of the rotating playlists thing myself, I personally won't be playing it much regardless, but I don't crucible much so that's why. The broken heart buff was interesting and well implemented I think. I saw someone ranting about how it was unfair because they're a solo player and apparently have no friends, whatsoever, not even one, who plays Destiny. That sucks to be them, but the having to be in a two man fireteam for doubles makes all of the sense, never change that. Especially not for a short event like this one, special little requirements like that add a certain flavor to the whole thing. The Rewards Random engrams, laaaaame. But a couple of shaders, an emblem, and the xp buff consumables were all neat. I am actually quite fond of the emblem and think I'll be using it more in the future too so yay. And as a reward for a short little event, fantastic. It's a hey, I took part in this thing that only happened briefly! Not some game breaking gear. I am always down for some new shaders, even if I don't expect to use them myself, I like little cosmetic rewards for little events like this. The consumables themselves, well I didn't actually get any during the games I played but I know what they do. Those are a little disappointing. One, weapons already have a lot of stuff that boosts their xp gains, class items, telemetries, they don't need another one. If they had been for all gear, that would have been a touch better. But my main gripe with the candies is that they don't do anything cosmetic. I am super fond of the Halloween consumable that does the bats on a respawn, so I was kind of hoping they would do that but with hearts or rose petals. Would have liked to see some themed legendary class items so that I can run around with a heart framed by roses on my hunter's back, similar for my titan, and like a pink holographic heart or something for a warlock would have been really neat, but the new Ghost Shells are good. It's nice to have another legendary shell option or two. My Reasoning This is a small event to celebrate a holiday. The tower got a bit of a makeover, always nice to see the place decorated up a bit. Some cosmetic rewards are the point of it, not crazy gear. This is the sort of thing I would expect from an MMO, something to show that you are in the holiday spirits, not some game breaking gear. There are plenty of ways to get higher light gear, or 'better' gear already, this doesn't need to be perverted into such a thing The people participating should not be getting enraged like they're being denied some special gear when they lose, but be having fun with their friend or loved one no matter how things turn out. When I played I don't recall not getting loot when I lost, which I did a lot, but win or lose we had fun. There were some close matches, some not so close matches, and drinks all around, it was Mardi Gras last night after all, and we had fun with it despite neither of us being particularly good at pvp. Changes I Would Like to See Next Year Consumables that do something cosmetic. And some love for the PvE people. Make a quest that involves a Nightfall, or semi-Nightfall, tiered strike that will grant a shader (preferably a red or pink and black one to kind of mirror the RoseBright), an emblem (A broken heart perhaps?), and some themed consumables. I'd suggest Omnigul, The Dark Blade, or the Shield Bros. And have the Broken Heart modifier on it. Omnigul because of all of the humorous fanfiction that involves Eris being a jilted lover of Crota and Omnigul being the new girl on the scene. Some special voice acting for the strike would be cool, but I understand that's more trouble than it's worth for a one week event, but some humorous text in the Quest Log/from the Quest Giver would be fun. Maybe make it Cayde looking for material for his fanfiction or something. He and Eris already antagonize one another what's one more little thing. The Dark Blade because there is a little bit of a love story hinted at between The Dark Blade and the wizard Verock. Having Verock in the pit, but alternating spawning in with The Dark Blade could play on that forever star crossed lovers sort of thing. Or have to fight her after you slay The Dark Blade or something like that I dunno. Shield Bros, they already mimic the Broken Heart buff more or less. And there are two of them... that's about the extent of my reasoning there. So yeah, looking at Crimson Days with a little more perspective and realizing what it is. I think it is enjoyable, and does what is intended and expected of little events like this in MMOs. People just were hoping for more and didn't realize, or at least refused to accept, that it was as small as it was. At least they love Destiny enough to get upset when it doesn't match/exceed their expectations or rather speculations, I guess... Anyways, Kale Out See You Space Cowboys
