Cars don't kill people.

It's the person behind the wheel that decides to run over somebody not the car itself. The same can be said about somebody using a gun. It's the individual that's the problem not the guns or cars.

  • Cars are regulated, you don't let anyone get behind a wheel, there is process you have to go through to be able to drive one. Guns anyone can buy one with no training or experience and minimal background checks and buy ammunition to go with it. In Australia, anyone can get a gun unless your background check finds you unsuitable (mental illness, history of violence etc.). To be legally about to buy and use one you must sit a test as well as a practical demonstration that you are able to use it safely and correctly. Your license posted out to you in a few months once everything is verified and then you can buy your guns. This lowers accidental deaths because of mishandling (shooting yourself or family) because you know how to take care of it. Criminals with get guns anyway so why not lower accidental deaths and make it harder for dangerous people to get guns. Also there is a reason assault rifles are called assault rifles, not protection rifles.
