Is it wrong to spend money on a game you like?

Is it?

  • SRL is a great twist to the grind for materials, armor etc. But is it priced fairy? Sure! It's free. But the Record Book for example is just a rip off. At $10.00 the record book cost 16% of the entire game list price. Seriously worth spending your money on? Thats an individual decision for sure but expect to see a lot more of this in the future. Let's say a record book now for 10 bucks. Next a crucible score card let's say for 10 bucks, then maybe stats that are free today like progress tracker and so on for another 10 bucks. Throw in emotes, purchase required shaders maybe or whatever is next. Soon you have $100.00 or $150.00 bucks into the game. That's the ROI Bungie is looking for. Too rich for me. That's the cost of a whole other game. Nickel and dime you to death.

  • These kids act like this money goes straight into the CEO's wallet. They haven't a clue how a business works. Is gaming headed this direction? Yeah, probably, eventually. At least the big titles. Is it anything new? Not even remotely. "Free to play" games have used this business model for a looooong time. Is it a problem? That depends on a lot of things. What are the items available? Is it pay to win? What is the money being used for? What type of game is it? Here's the long and short of it: Destiny is a perpetual MMOFPS with RPG elements. The micro transactions being offered are cosmetic only, reasonably priced, and of fair quality. The money gained from these sales is being used to maintain the current state of the game, and periodically provide special events for players to enjoy. There is nothing to make a player feel pressured into paying for the items. So no, in this instance, there's nothing wrong with spending your money on something you want. This is a fact all you children decrying those who would purchase said content should try to get through your dense skulls.

    • Only if it is something that cannot be attained without money or gives you an unfair advantage. I don't think that most people have a problem with others being able to buy emotes and such. The problem is that I, and a lot of others in the community, can see when bungie will start selling engrams, and then an exclusive exotic. As soon as it becomes an advantage, micro transactions are a bad thing.

          • Inherently, there is nothing wrong with spending money on something you enjoy. For me personally, the $40 season pass for TDB and HoW was not worth the price, so I flat out refused to buy TTK until I knew everything it offered. With TTK came the optional pack of some emotes, shaders, and class items for $20. A little later on, they released more emotes, a total of $40 worth. Not only was there now more supposed monetary value in a bunch of (mostly) cosmetic, the content of TTK ($40) was essentially compared to be of equal worth to maybe 20 dance animations. Then add in the Festival of the Lost items, and the SRL stuffs, and it makes you really question pricing for Destiny. I'm fine with paying for quality content. I'm not alright with Bungie taking advantage of people.

            • Nope keep spending your hard earned money on the things that bring you satisfaction! For some it's sports, some it's women, others it's games. No foul if you spend money on things you like.

As long as you're ok with it, then it's fine. Most people on the forums seem to have a personal issue with destiny and are now crusading against it. You'd think some of them had stock in the game.

              • not at all. Some people like Destiny a lot and are willing to "catch them all" when it comes to this game. They have the money and want to spend that money on Destiny stuff. For me at least, this isn't a "keeping up with the jones's" thing but i can see how that could happen. But if people buy this out of peer pressure that's another problem. "to make a long story short....(why do they say that stan? it doesn't make it shorter)". Let people spend their money on what they want and don't let your insecurities get in the way of what other people do with their money. Even if this does become a pay to win game, It will only make the better people better (which is really, at best, 17% of a community). Selling a gjallarhorn with money (if they ever do that) won't make scrubs better over night. They'll still suck. It'll just make the emotionally immature people jealous that they can't just buy it too or won't out of some misplaced sense of ethics.

No, but I do think Bungie is being pretty shady with these micro transactions, and after all the very expensive dlc's so far it's getting pretty ridiculous. That being said I can happily say I got my money's worth so it hardly matters.

                    • When it comes to this game, where it barely has any content after 3 expansions and each expansion and the base game are massivley overpriced, yes, if you buy silver on Destiny, you should feel ashamed for fueling a company that does nothing but fuck over their customers for a few extra bucks.

                    • Is it wrong that you have to spend so much money on a game (is this game really worth the money being spent on it) if a tree falls and no one hears it do bungie still care about us. Nah they got silver sales now.

                      • Destiny has actually saved me money since I realized I didn't really want to play other games anymore. Halo 5 is the only other title I've purchased since Destiny launched and I'm considering purchasing The Division but nothing else.

                        • In my eyes, we're getting ripped off and I see destiny being stretched out over 15 years instead of 10. Solely because a years worth of content just got moved to destiny 2, and something for there will most likely move to being the next dlc. If they can make money off these events, they're just going to delay product over and over again. Not the first time, won't be the last time. That's why I won't support it myself, but I'll never tell someone what to do with their money, go buy some sparrows if you want, just hope the events turn out to be enough content for you.

                          • Apparently it is. And your opinion on the value is stupid too. Were just a bunch of paid Bungie supporters sent to the forums to make the whole thing look peachy even though they're intentionally screwing us.
