Population is going up, why? Because people are coming back. I stood by Halo through COD, AC:B, F:NV, etc and my friends left. I slowly promised them happiness and gratification from their frustration in other games through Halo. I told them Halo would be happy to have them back. All of my friends are playing Halo again.
