How to Fix Moldering Shards now that Hard mode is out

I believe Moldering Shards have become useless and they still can be earned. I think it be awesome if a node on all armor and weapons allowed to use moldering shards to give an increase in light for that particular gear. This would effectively allow people who only get shards in the raid to rejoice since they could upgrade their light even if RNG is being a bitch. The problem is RNG literally favors 1 person for weeks. I have 1 friend who somehow has 320 primary, secondary, ghost and 317+ gauntlets and chest piece with other light levels consistent with hard mode. the highest light anything I got is a 318 ghost, and 317 chest. all others 311 or 312 but no hard mode primaries. For emphasis I have killed oryx on hard 4 times. He has killed oryx 6 times now. Obviously RNG is favoring him and giving him way more light levels. Another friend is even worse luck he cant get any gear at 315 or higher and he has run it 4 times as well. This system makes beating a boss more of a hassle and so underwhelming. You have trouble with oryx for an hour and you get a 311 mark while your friends get 318 primaries. the distinction makes raiding turn sour. My idea is "Ascension" to make the node cost -10 Weapon Parts (which are extinct and harder to get) or Armor Materials -5 Moldering Shards -10 Motes of Light -5 Hadium Flakes This material count could be used to get any gear to increase say 1 light level maybe more. Instead of oryx taking 20 shards per completion you could spend those shards to get 4 more light levels on a piece of gear. and since you get 15+ per raid you could get 9 levels if you do a raid 3 times a week and you aren't level locked by RNG. you would still have to play content regularly and farm for those materials but eventually you are able to hit max light with your friends. RNG is broken if it doesn't have some way to overcome the level lock. Some people out there may never break 315 after 20+ hard mode completions. That isn't effective leveling and it turns content sour. This way everyone is happy or content at least with getting moldering shards when your friends get 320 gear by luck. Seriously up-vote this idea if you like it or tell me what you would do to improve it. This is something bungie should see and implement so the hard raid will still be rewarding in some manner.

  • I completely agree with this. Ive done the ttk raid since it first came out and I have yet to even get a chest piece, or even a single heavy drop from that raid. I'm been stuck at 305 for weeks now. Kinda sad since a friend of mine has done thee raids and already got every drop from it...

  • The hard raid has only been out a week. See how it plays out in 2-3 weeks. Someone will always be lucky in a run and such a small sample size is indicative of nothing. I'm not trying to belittle your position I'm just saying it could completely reverse in a week or 2

"My idea is "Ascension" to make the node cost -10 Weapon Parts (which are extinct and harder to get) or Armor Materials -5 Moldering Shards -10 Motes of Light -5 Hadium Flakes" I like your idea, but I'd change the amounts. My idea: -15 weapon/armor materials -10 moldering shards -5 motes of light -10 hadium flakes I think it should be 15 weapon/armor materials instead of 10 because I think it should cost more than it does for infusion. I think it should be 10 moldering shards rather than 5 because I think it should cost a greater proportion of the moldering shards that you get from a single run. I think it should be 5 instead of 10 for motes because I think motes shouldn't be a limiting factor for this, they should just be a necessary but secondary component. Finally, I think 10 instead of 5 hadium flakes since it costs 10 for each upgrade that requires these flakes such as in touch of malice, so I think it should cost the same amount of flakes to increase the light of these items. Basically, I just think it should feel like more of an investment except for motes. Have a great day. Edit: also I think this should only be possible for "harrowed" weapons/armor from hard mode. Again, have a great day.

      • Why are they useless? Did the hard mode last night and got 3rd gun(harrowed Rocket Launcher) from using the shards.

        • My idea to fix moldering shards was to guarantee the drop off of Oryx be at max light. However, I think yours is a little more practical.

          • I still dont get why it takes 20 mouldering shards off you to only give you 2 back and nothing else? seriously where is fking rationale behind that?

            • Moldering shards aren't a problem. Players' lack of understanding of how they work is the problem.

              • For real though, this current raid loot system is HORRIBLE. You spend so much of your time hoping to get that piece of gear that you need, and when you finally get it, it drops at 310 instead of 320. What it takes to max is absurd, and it's all because they were trying to push the infusion idea (which is fine on paper, but implemented badly). Every time you get gear to drop in the raid, it's actually a 1/11 chance to get what you want. Try doing that with 3 different characters... it gets old very fast. There needs to be another way to increase the light of raid gear, and this is a good one. I've got roughly 100 completions of VoG and Crota each. I have all of the gear maxed, and I enjoyed doing it. For kings fall, I'm sitting at 19 completions, and it'll stay that way until something changes.
