This is the thing I find most disturbing about this game. I find myself wanting to play it and I have no real motivation to do so. I'll jump on, do one thing and wonder what I even bothered and turn it off. That is really odd and creepy to me. It shows me that as much as I know what bungie is doing and I understand addiction, even I get pulled in and I never really wanted to play this game in the first place. That is troubling. It also bothers me that Bungie seems to have zero problem with any of this. It bothers me that there are others who are WAY more susceptible to this than myself, others who are way younger and might not understand. It all really bothers me, troubles me. It's a disquieting feeling when you realize what they are actually doing. It's on the boarder of criminal. There are many things I don't like about Destiny, this one I find the most disturbing. http://youtu.be/g79dWuqXe5o

  • Man been gaming since the 80s. Knew there was something fishy with the game yet familiar. This is just sad what the industry has come too.

  • The bottom line here... which is a big problem with the rest of the world as well.... Everything is about money, so people trying to make it any way they can and this includes addicting people, something gambling, cigarettes, drug companies, etc, have been doing for years and it's growing. Now it's creeping it's way into console games, something that was always more of a PC and App thing. Not a good sign of things to come.

  • Mmo's have contained this for years and years especially on pc. I love Destiny and I've put in many hours but I have a life, work full time, etc. yes the game is designed to get you to come back for that sweet sweet loot but if a internal problem occurs it's the individual who has a higher additive personality and its that persons issue and needs to seek help if it unfortunately gets out of hand. On a positive note Destiny has a amazing universe and why wouldn't you want to visit frequently :)

Of course....anyone, can get addicted to anything... However, smoking is more addicting than ping pong, wouldn't you say? That's why cigarettes have warning labels and ping pong doesn't. The thing bungie is doing is preying on the weak and the susceptible... It's not just the loot, it's the way the whole thing is designed, to keep you playing longer and longer for pointless reasons. I would say I was addicted to Halo and Gears and COD but for completely different reasons. I enjoyed the play, the getting better, the trying out new ways of playing. Shame is, Destiny has a lot of that but it kills it by forcing you to have to play longer and pay more if you want to enjoy it. These are all really bad, lazy and sloppy game design tactics. They have a good thing going with Destiny but they're going to make it shitty for the sake of a little more money. It's why Joe and Marty left and with good reason. Oh and yes, the MMO thing has been addicting people for a long time but it's pretty new on AAA console games and it's a turn I will not support in the future.

  • Yeah that's an excellent point you make about young kids - gambling has age limits, but this game is only 13 and up (in North America at least). Get em hooked before they understand addiction.....it's kinda sad. Welcome to the group, we have fruit cocktail and muffins on the back table, I only ask that you smoke outside because there are 13 year old addicts present.

  • It's also not needed. They added these skinner box tricks because they didn't have enough content and they knew it would be a repetitive game, so they needed to create the blinking lights and rewards to keep people come back for the gold star. Also, the hours people dump into this game pays off for them, in the attention they get in media, on the most played on on the dashboard, etc. It's a terrible idea.
