It's all based on your light level. If you are below 300 light your chance of getting items above 300 are really low

As you can see from comments below. There is no true system for drops, it is all left to RNG and luck.

Not sure if I buy that. Here's why. Ever since I've been over 300 I've gotten 5 items at 300-302 and 2 at 305 which were the crappy hand cannon and fusion rifle. When all my char's weren't over 300 I got...310 & 309 chest, for my warlock and huntard, 310 bond, 305 gloves for my titan. I also have gotten even less exotics and the only ones that have become 310 were two 4th horsemen. Makes no sense at all.

Not true at all. Light level 307, had 300 raid boots drop

308 on my hunter, haven't had a 310 drop ever on her. All of my 310s are either from infusing exotics, or my 2 310 drops of boots and a ghost on my warlock that was sub 300...

This. 308 light and had 301 boots drop.

I was 307 , wearing a 304 chest and got two chests of 300 and 302 respectively. I'm using a 307 scout and it gives me a 300 hand cannon. I'm using a 310 cloak it drops 300 cloaks. I don't doubt the gear and light based reward system is there, I just don't think it's working well enough. Why am I getting multiple drops of the same gear at shitting levels?

Well the first two times i did the raid i only got thw chest peice and each time i get it its lower light lol I can get helm boots or gloves at all or id be much better off

Tell me, how am I supposed to hit 300 light when everything I get rolls 275? Even raid drops, I was thinking ok maybe 305 or so to get me to 300 so I can start grinding better exotics/loot. NOPE. 300 on the dot. Gave me nothing as an increase. Sure feels rewarding getting progression in the weekly raid. This is the first raid of destiny, like it or not, that you can literally do the raid AND get lucky enough to get a raid set piece drop for you, and STILL have ZERO progression that week.
