New forum policy, technically locking forums behind a paywall.

I just read a little post on #OffTopic not long ago, linking me to another post made by DeeJ himself. What I read, I did not like. Not in the fucking slightest. The following is that post, made by DeeJ around 9 - 10 hours previous of me writing this.
Hey there, Community. At Bungie, we’re committed to making our website a safe, well-lit place for the community. As the engaged innkeepers of Bungie.net, we’ve learned that accountability is a great ingredient in the recipe for a healthy community. When a user has some personal investment associated with their account, they’re more likely to take pride in the way they communicate with other people. Since its inception and throughout various evolutions, Bungie.net has served a community that shares a game. The game (Destiny, for example) is the thing we all have in common – the unifying element that brings us together in the first place. In order to ensure that the end-users who are accessing the public forums on Bungie.net have a greater interest in the quality of the conversation, we’re going to require that each account be linked to a Guardian with some player history. At current, that includes more than 99% of our active community. Bungie.net accounts are free, easy to make, and easy to link to your playable character. Your access to the public forums is tied to your Guardian, but your account can still be used to enjoy many of the free social features that we provide. If you’re not playing Destiny, you’ll still have access to Private Groups. If you’re a new user who is seeking support from us on the #Help forum, you can find some instructions on how to create and link an account here: https://www.bungie.net/en/Help/Article/12130 If you need assistance with creating your account, let us know here: https://www.bungie.net/en/Help/Troubleshoot?oid=13633 It is our hope that you’ll enjoy a long stay in our online home. Throw down some roots. Make some friends. Play some games. Be excellent to each other. DeeJ, out.
Bungie, there is no way possible for you to try and defend this decision. To put it in smaller form; If you have a b.net account and own Destiny, but have not linked your XBL/PSN account, you will be banned. If you have a b.net account and have it linked to your XBL/PSN account, but do not own Destiny, you will be banned. That's what really gets me. The fact that non-Destiny owners get locked out of about 90% of the forum features is absolutely infuriating. That means, if you don't own Destiny but want to use the forums, (Most of #OffTopic) then you'd better pay up. That's locking your forums behind a $40 - $60 paywall, as well as firmly planting your boot in the mouths of an estimated 50% of your community. The people that got you here, the people who supported you up until now, the people who loved you; Gone. Damn near all of them. Banned, stuck behind that wall. The worst part? There's nothing anyone can do to stop this. Once that slip of paper gets drawn from the hat, it's done. No amount of petitions could change their minds. My mind is just running the same thing through my head right now; Happy guy, walking up some stairs. That guy sets foot on the top stair, and is immediately blown apart by a double-barrel shotgun. That's where your actions have gotten you, Bungie. You move up the ladder, only to hit the snake on your next roll. You want feedback? You'll get just that. Except this time, don't expect me to fucking sugarcoat anything. I would love to see either CM defend this shit. Come on, gimme a good laugh. Anarchy, out.

  • Why would you be on this application if you don't own destiny. You're dumb. Quit crying about stupid things

      • I am 100% for this. If you haven't played Destiny, don't play Destiny, or have played and deleted your characters, you have no reason to be on the forums other than to troll or to tell those of us that enjoy the game that we are the bad guys. Maybe we can finally move on from all this mindless hate and move on to actual feedback. The horse is dead, you beat it into dust, it's time to move on.

        • If people don't play destiny, why should they be on its forums? I see nothing wrong with this. It seems like you are trying to incite some infighting within the community over nothing.

This is an excellent initiative and one I whole hearted support. Great move Bungie - keep the forums for those who play Destiny.

            • This isn't anything new really. A lot of games do this nowadays. Why have people running all their bs in a forum when they don't even play and their input or trolling is invalid? It's like the random facebook troll that comes from nowhere to post stupid crap on someones feed....I think it's a good thing.

              • I agree save 1 thing...there IS something we can do about it... BOYCOTT BUNGIE AND ACTIVISION Till they give us the product/service we deserve or till they run this shit of a game into the ground. Simple...don't give them anymore money.

              • I don't see this as a pay wall at all. However I've seen as recent as yesterday someone posting without a Destiny account linked.

              • The forums have always been limited if you hadn't played Destiny. As far as I knew, you could only post in #help if you hadn't played. I'm not sure it's behind a paywall though, because i would guess that playing the demo would open up the other forums. Also, WoW does this as well. You can't post in general discussions there unless you have an active subscription.

                • This would effect less than 1% of people on the forums. What's the big deal?

                  • Okay here's Deej's post and I am going to interject my responses into it:
Hey there, Community. At Bungie, we’re committed to making our website a safe, well-lit place for the community. As the engaged innkeepers of Bungie.net, we’ve learned that accountability is a great ingredient in the recipe for a healthy community. When a user has some personal investment associated with their account, they’re more likely to take pride in the way they communicate with other people.
Accountability you say? That's really funny coming from you DeeJ, considering you and the rest of Bungie have virtually none on the forums for your game breaking mistakes. Personal investment can be accounted for with their previous gaming experiences, as I am sure those who played halo have been on these forums for a while. Again, accountability on your part is lacking here (more like common sense actually).
No, Destiny is not the thing we all have in common, it is the thing that most of us have in common. And who ever said those who don't have Destiny aren't interested in the "quality of conversation"?
Bungie.net accounts are free, easy to make, and easy to link to your playable character. Your access to the public forums is tied to your Guardian, but your account can still be used to enjoy many of the free social features that we provide. If you’re not playing Destiny, you’ll still have access to Private Groups.
Free, but apparently exclusive now. This is sounding almost like the whole TTK situation (Minus the free, but aligned with the lock-out).
DeeJ, out.
Yeah I'd love to make friends, with everyone, Destiny users and non-destiny users alike. And roots? Well the people that have been here for years were the roots, so I think you mean "throw away some roots." We won't be excellent to each other because you guys are practically a disgrace. -blam!-ing ridiculous. We're in the forums ripping each other apart daily BECAUSE YOU LACK THE SO-CALLED ACCOUNTABILITY THAT YOU SAID FOSTERS A HEALTHY COMMUNITY. Don't you see? You guys lack it and don't respond to important issues, therefore we are left to attack each other like beta fish (hmmm beta...destiny...interesting). If I was religious, I'd pray for you DeeJ.
