Why Dead Orbit?
Not sure if this is going to get a lot of attention, but it seems the most popular faction in all of Destiny is Dead Orbit, and I just wanna know why. If you side with another faction, which one is it and why?

14 RepliesAll Dead Orbit has going for it is a nice set of shaders and a ship. Personally I'm with New Monarchy, but I agree with Future War Cult the most. Dead Orbit want to leave Earth and the Traveller, to find a new home New Monarchy want there to be one central power to care for the City and its people Future War Cult want to arm up for any future conflict. Personally, running away isn't my thing Conflict is human nature anyway The people, our future are more important than almost anything else.

Personally I have 2 Dead Orbit and 1 New Monarchy, I like the DO shaders the best and a couple of the NM ones as well. Not really a fan of the FWC shaders but as another Guardian said, I agree with their ideals more than the other two.

Because the game provided me with no lore treason to pick any of them. so I went with the one with the coolest gear. In dark souls I'm a servant of chaos because the witches story breaks my heart (I'm aware that I'm a softy) I'm dark souls 2 I'm a Sun bro cause I like helping people with boss fights.(and there is no servant of chaos) In Destiny however there is to reason to join any faction, lore wise or game play wise. so I chose based on the rewards.

1 ReplyI'm with dead orbit because it's the shortest run in the tower. None of the faction weapons or armour interest me but once ttk drops I will change if one of them has something good that I want.

Running dead orbit on 2 of my characters for the shaders and ship (guns aren't bad either). Supporting new monarchy on my main because I dig their style and armor perks. Once ttk hits tomorrow, one of the 2 characters I have running D.O. will be switching over to new monarchy after I turn dead orbit over a few more times.

I saw somewhere that new monarchy was actually the most populated. Dead orbit has a bunch of shaders that people like because they are black and white only. i personally am a collector and am with them to collect everything. it also happens i agree with their philosophy.

Because it's black and white. People have always liked black or white the most when customizing the color of their gear in every game I have played.

With this new scheme for factions I'm just going to sign up each of my three characters for one each amongst FWC, DO and NM. If it doesn't actually affect "normal" vanguard mark farming now and doesn't require crucible any more then it seems like a no brainer even if the entry price is 2,500 glimmer for each.

1 ReplyI'm a bit conflicted on the faction thing. Dead Orbit has some of the nicest shaders, though they all kinda look the same. New Monarchy has some nice ideals about bringing back the golden age and stuff but they seem to be pretty power-grabby. Also some nice shaders there. I agree with FWC the most but I like their gear the least, with the exception of the new ship. Personally I run with one of each, with my main in New Monarchy. All I want is a green-based faction damnit.

I honestly chose Dead Orbit because after I realized the Seven Seraphs would not be in game yet. I don't mind their beliefs abandon the earth and start anew. It's calling a spade a spade and moving on.

Shaders. Out of the 3 factions FWC is my preferred faction however their shaders make you look like Bozo the clown. Where else are we gonna get a black/black and white shader in Destiny but Dead Orbit.

1 ReplyI side with Dead Orbit mostly for the aesthetics, but I do feel sympathy for them. I don't like the funerary theme they have going on, I think they'd have a lot more supporters if they were a bit less pessimistic. But the white and black shaders are... to die for. As for what faction is "right", in my opinion, it's Future War Cult. Too bad their color palette is an eyesore, or I would support them primarily (I have 1 guardian for each as of now) New Monarchy has a nice palette, I like their naming themes, but I strongly disagree with their intent. They kinda have a point, in that having a single ruler to oversee all councils would speed up the decision-making process, and humanity does NOT have time to spare. But I just don't like it, the idea can go wrong VERY easily, and the last thing the City needs is a civil war. I do love how their shaders are named after queens, though. Well, sort of. Nefertiti and Cleopatra were queens, Themisto and Amalthea were mythological moms, if I remember correctly. Point is: women, and that's neat.
