It's like a Cycle

When I say a Cycle I am talking about the Bungie community itself. I will be honest, I don't come as often anymore. However when I do it seems like the only thing that ever is changing is the graphics of the website itself. The community always seems to stay the same. Same people, same events, same groups, same threads, same questions, same memes, same policies, and the list may go on. I know that this is one of the reasons I tend not to visit as often, because well. It seems like nothing interesting happens much. I see the same "known" community members always here, as if they never get less satisfied of the activities and bored of things. It is almost as if they are always finding something within the semi-limited resources available to make something of it. Even though in my opinion the reality is it is still the same. I really don't see much new, is it that most active members participating actively within this community just wanting to help? Are you guys here to become known and make friends with the other community members here? Or do you have no general reason but just come and become part of the cycle? Things seem to be slowing as well too. And my main reason for still coming here is mainly unknown, I guess a little of just wandering and reading things but never participating. It seems like I used to be here all the time posting and participating, and now I read the Bungie Blog and that is about it. Sure I know alot of you come here because you love the game and the atmosphere of the developers, people, and the community itself. And I agree with that too, and I assume that is another reason I wander here. But I have a question for the members here that are always actively participating, that have been here for awhile, and well appear to not notice the cycling events and such. Have you guys ever even got bored of the community, do you notice what I view as this cycling community? And if you do why and what do you do to stop yourself from drifting away? Or what is it that stops you? I always find myself drifting away because nothing catches my interest, and nothing seems to be new and exciting enough to be worth getting involved and participating in. I understand that this is a strong matter of my opinion too. I'm tempted to say I would like things within the community to change but I don't know how or what would be satisfying and how it would be changed. I don't know why I made this thread either... randomness

 • So people have always been complaining about Halo 3? I just find it odd that whenever a ninja trolls it's completely acceptable. This is where the controversial subject of elitism comes into play.
But that means things have changed since then, right? So it's not a cycle!
Yes, on a personal level it has. As a community, no, no it hasn't.
Raise a community around a popular entertainment sensation and watch them turn. It happened to Star Wars and it's happening to Halo. Out with the old, in with the new.

 •
Posted by: heyyou9974 I do find my self spending less and less time on the Public Forums and more on other Community sites and Private groups.
Same. Every once in a while I come across new members that need a point in the right dirrection, which I'm always happy to do. Asside from that, I've been spending most time in private groups lately.

 • Although the hero of every age of light is different, every dark age is ushered in by the same beast - a transient divinity that seeks only conflict -

 •
Posted by: Screecherz
Posted by: Reptilian Rob Chronic or otherwise, there should be consequences. Back in 05 was considered a troll, after I received a ban or two that changed. I just find it odd that whenever a ninja trolls it's completely acceptable. This is where the controversial subject of elitism comes into play.
I dont think elitism is the force at play here as much as the attraction to power is. Moderators and Employees, while more authoritative, are given that extra degree of freedom because they obviously still know how to handle their power. Not that it is right, or by any standardized reason acceptable, but to be quite honest nearly everyone finds it enjoyable.
That is yet another thing I find disappointing, that alot if not most of the elitism is from the newer moderators, and the older members, or basically anyone that is friends with the older members and newer mods. You should expect the opposite, you would expect an example from those people.

 •
Posted by: elmicker You've been here a year and you're already posting "it's dead jim." threads? Cripes. Kids these days eh?
I don't think time spent here should be an indicator on the validity of somebody's post. Rather, their ideas are what really matter. It's a discussion forum after all.

 • Disclaimer: I only read the first paragraph of the original post With that being said, unless Scotty did a complete 180 after that first paragraph, I agree completely. Hell, I've mentioned it a few times myself; that's why I sometimes take prolonged absences from this site. (Not bans.) Due to being in college, and aside from the occasional weekend bender, I'm on my laptop much more now, usually procrastinating on some homework, so that kind of explains why I personally am around more. Anyway, I may be generalizing here, but I can only assume that after the average member is here for awhile, they get bored and branch out to private groups or other community sites. (New Flood, #Moap, HBO, NeoGaf....whatever the hell that is.)
