Are the moderators more tolerant of the misbehavior of highly ranked member

So, i have recently come out of hiding. Mainly, due to boredom. I have not posted terribly much. However, a friend of mine mentioned me today that I should be banned because he thinks that all of my posts since my re-emergence border on spam. However, he thinks that the reason I have not been banned is because of my Mythic status. Now, as I've not come to the forums for quite a long time(to me), I have no idea if this seems to be a plausible, prevalent phenomenon. What do you think? EDIT: argh! accursed character limit in the title bar! [Edited on 04.01.2009 9:20 PM PDT]

 • Yes i think they do, but it wouldn't be fair to someone who has used this website for a long time to suddenly lose their status over a minor infringement of the rules. It's like school - the teachers display more leniency to the older students.

 •
Posted by: Serious Suicide I hope they are not more tolerant, no matter your status everyone should be treated equally.
Not necessarily true. I tend to lean more towards Helvecks thinking. Let the new members know right off that they can't do that or they'll keep doing it. (whatever they did wrong) If an older member does something that's not crossing the line, then you warn them because they're less likely to repeat it. Then again, I've been here a while (other lost accounts) and would likely be treated as a new member because I'm not active enough to go up in rank. So I kind of see both sides, but I think they should be slightly less strict on older members.

 • Well I haven't been banned for a while now and all I seem to be doing is having some fun in the Halo 3 Forum. Only occasionally though, I just love to see some of their responses to certain topics I post. Back on topic I think it may have something to do with it because we do have these ranks for a reason don't we. It shows that you are a mature user on bungie.net.

 • I believe I've been banned about 3 times, and warned maybe 4 (some before bluebar, some after). I don't think it's a question of the colour of my title bar that influences what Moderators think about me. It's more "oh god, it's him again -.-'...." sort of lovin'.

 • No. The last time I dropped from Legendary to regular Member, all I got was a quote from "a particular unnamed fmoderator" saying play nice.

 • I need one mythic member to volunteer themselves to participate in some testing of the "mythix don't get banned when members do" hypothesis.

 •
Posted by: Rampancy I need one mythic member to volunteer themselves to participate in some testing of the "mythix don't get banned when members do" hypothesis.
So... you're gonna ask a Mythic member to try and get banned? ... Ask Snakie next time he's Mythic. He'd be glad to do it.

 • I think the mods are going to give mythic members more leaniency then say someone who has only been here a few months.

 • I always thought that the titles were supposed to be a visible display our trust rating. The moderators can't honestly be required to know the millions of member we have today. The title sort of tells a history of the member.

 •
Posted by: Yoozel Having a mythic bar to me tells me that you should know how to act around here and you should know the rules.
Mmm, a friend of mine was banned (and his Mythic status subsequently stripped by the algorithm) for what was an, at maximum, warning offence. Because he should know better and set an example for lower-ranked members. So there's a balance - a few of the Mythic members might get a bit more leeway because the moderators know (of) them so they know when they're joking, for instance, but that's cancelled by the occasional more harsh treatment on the grounds that if you're an older member ignorance is definitely not an excuse.

 •
Posted by: A Celtic Tiger I haven't seen a Mythic member blacklisted. Because they don't do anything to deserve that.
Verachi, whom have been a Mythic member long time ago, was blacklisted due of multiple spam. Years after his curse being in the Legendary statue, he retrieved his mythic statue yesterday. On topic: Mythic member have the same level for all the member, but have history of being well known by a bungie employee or the moderators.

You flattering me, John. Anyway, Like yoozel said, Mythic knows much rules around here. That is one thing that they really deserve a mythic member.

 • For me personally, Legendary and Mythic members get more leeway generally -- not necessarily because I know them, but because their member titles are a recognition of a long history of being around, being active, and not getting into trouble with the rules. If I send a message to a Mythic Member asking him to please not make a certain type of post, or please be sure to post in a certain forum from now on, I know I will get a response back that is coherent and reasonable. If I post in a Mythic Member's off-topic thread with the reason why the thread is being locked, I know that the Mythic Member will read it and try to avoid doing that kind of thing anymore. In other words, if the website's trust rating trusts you enough to give you a legendary or blue bar, then I also trust you to not be the kind of person who intentionally breaks forum rules or simply does not care about them. For small mistakes, this definitely gives Legendary and Mythic members the advantage of having some leeway in their posting. Like Saint said, however, it can result in harsher penalties for rulebreaking that is clearly intentional or a flagrant violation of long-established and obvious forum rules. Set out your test parameters, dammit! If your only difference is in whether or not they're Mythic or not, you have all manner of variables like ban lengths, frequency and how recent they were, join date, and whatever else. Scientific method and empiricism, boy!

I have a feeling that one of the requirements to reach Mythix is to have some warning/blacklist history. If only for the sake of the persons understanding rules that much better. Not sure, could be terrible logic on my part. [Edited on 04.02.2009 5:49 AM PDT]

A member and a mythic make the same actions at similar times and we observe who is banned first/at all. SCIENCE, MAN. SCIENCE.
