Many weapons are classified as designated marksman rifles, it does not refer to any one weapon (besides the USMC DMR). It is similar to how an Assault Rifle refers to any lightweight fully-automatic rifle, or how a Battle Rifle refers to any high-powered semi-automatic rifle. It's just a category. As for the link, the M392 shares literally nothing in common visually with the M14 family of weapons. Sorry.
