Just throwing a random idea out there. Anybody think a save as draft feature would come in hand for long posts? You know, just in case there's an error? Sort of like how e-mails work, I think. I know we could simply highlight and copy ... but an automatic save feature would definitely be much easier. You know, for us lazy people.
Thoughts?

as long as you hit preview, it'll save it, so if you post and it errors, just back button, refresh, and shamwow it's there. but if you had extended charecters, it messes up when you hit preview it'll mess up... which made quoting someone really hard. and f you type it in MS word, it has extended letters (to whoever said use MS word)... or do you mean just paste it in there?

Or else you must die...
*Cries*
Ignore him, he's full of shizz. I always CTRL(Command)+C every time anyway so it doesn't seem that important.
Or, when the error screen pops up after you click the "submit" button, just push F5, and when it asks you if you want to resend the information, resend it. I'd say it'd be a neat addition... for creating a new topic. Meaning you could save a new topic as a draft. Saving a post can be rather useless at times as usually they're shorter than the OP. Otherwise Microsoft Word would be a better "draft saver". Poor Script.

As CAVX mentioned above, those who spend more time making long posts will usually save their drafts in notepad or another word processor anyways.

PROTIP: Before clicking that little button titled "submit"; select the text box and then press ctrl+A, ctrl+C. Just in case.

Is it really that important? Most users don't post things that are long enough to justify the extra coding and server space. Not to mention the fact that many of those who make long posts take the time to type them in word processors anyway. No, I say leave the auto-saving drafts to the blogs. I think there's a reason why you really only see them there, but I can't really say why, so please pretend like I just said something insightful that makes you realize that they only belong in blogs. Also, to clarify, the feature would really be helpful, but its labor and used resources probably wouldn't be justified. Also, that first paragraph really wasn't necessary. I bet I could have used the sentence above and made my point just fine. Oh well.

I think this would be good because sometimes I will click on backspace and it will send me back a page. So annoying.
Posted by: hawkeye543 I don't think this is necessary, merely copy what you write before post, it's not that hard, even for lazy people. Implementing a feature that does what you have the power to do in three clicks is a waste of resources. ~Hawk
Yes, I learned a long time ago to always copy what I am about to post before I actually post it. Although, I really haven't encountered a lot of forum errors, if any, since about around the time when the prefixes were implemented...
Posted by: TASK Now that the "Extended Characters" thing is happening, then yes, that'd be neat. (What is this, Sandswept?)
Yes! ;) I think it would be a pretty cool feature, yet I usually copy + paste a post into notepad if it's going to be an extremely important post that contributes to some sort of amazing discussion, or if I'm just making a long original post. Would the feature be nice? Sure. Is it 100% necessary? Meh, not really.

I think the script people would make it more then just a "Save Draft" button, they'd go all out. *Waits at the script forum* / / Choco

I think it is a great idea. I sometimes get an error when posting, so I have to re-type everything... It can get aggravating.
Posted by: TheScriptKeeper I was thinking (now that I put a bit more thought into it), if any of you use MySpace then you'll know what I am talking about. When you are typing a message or comment or whatever it may be, every minute or so it'll save what you have so far. I just thought something like this would come in handy for those people who are creating a thread.
I know that a text-saving feature for posting has been brought up before, but I can't recall reading something suggesting this before. From the little bit I know about this kind of thing, adding a feature where the system only saves your work every so often instead of the whole time while you're typing wouldn't be too much work. Once the render to video and the other things on the top of the web team's list are all wrapped up, it would be nice to see something like this implemented. I am not lazy, but forgetting to copy what I'm typing up every now and then can be frustrating. But doing something twice, (or multiple times on certain occasions), can't hurt....practice makes perfect :-)

i think instead of just saving drafts, it should be made similar to gmail, it automatically saves every 15 seconds or so. Then you wont lose much i you accidentally clear the box.
