For those choosing to not play Destiny on 7/7/2015...

...I have an idea for how you could make your message more poignant, while at the same time a little less contentious. The things that have always made Bungie's games great are the communities that grow up around them. These communities support the game through activity, creating content, and spreading word of the game to their friends. By these means, many of Bungie's older games still see active players long after their heyday. In the most extreme example, there are even a few of us that still play a game that came out 20 years ago on a pretty regular basis. With the website redesign, lack of clan, custom games, or forge support, and now the less than tactful comments from lukems, it seems a lot of people would agree that the decision makers at this company don't understand why people play their games. As such, some of you are choosing not to play their game on Bungie Day. I personally think this is a perfectly reasonable action. However, I think the message could be improved. Several of the oldest communities on this website run activities on this day every year, mainly featuring Bungie's older games. While these are normally small affairs of less than 20 people, most of the games still have enough infrastructure to support a much larger crowd. My suggestion is this: If you're intentionally not going to play Destiny on 7/7/2015, go play the older games with one of these groups. Why does this improve the message? -It shows support for the business and community practices Bungie used during those days. -It shows, just by the virtue that some of these games still have players, that it's the community that keeps these games alive. -It shows that you aren't just doing this out of spite, and instead that you really do want this community to prosper and are taking this action because of that. How do I participate? As far as I know, there are two of the old groups planning activities for that day. If you're a veteran of the community and already own some of the old Halo titles, I'd recommend checking out: Community Carnage They're planning a lot activities across a number of games, and Rollin already has a preliminary schedule up in the group, so see if any of the games/times work for you. If you haven't been around long enough to have those old games (or just don't have them anymore), I'd recommend checking out: For Carnage Apply Within At the moment, we're planning on playing Marathon Infinity that day. Marathon was the shooter that Bungie made before Halo. They've since made it open-source, and as such the entire trilogy is available (legally) for free. It can be downloaded here: http://marathon.sourceforge.net/ Here are a few videos I've made of group activities if you've never seen the game before: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tp8X3y-ItzE (Marathon/Halo PC/Myth Co-Op Montage-ish thing) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C4F0Y8KsVc4 (Fall Classic: Wacky Community-Created Gametypes/Mods) (Note: My YouTube channel isn't monetized (and I don't have plans for it to be) and my last public upload was in December, so that really isn't a plug.) If any of this interests you, I know both groups would be happy to have you on that day (there will be cross-over between them as well; FCAW's hosting CC's Marathon segment for instance), and both should be able to help you with any questions about installation (Marathon's probably the easiest, as you don't even need to download 3rd-party maps as long as you're not hosting). I would just make a post in either group sometime before then if you're having issues. I'll also note that FCAW normally plays twice a week as is, so you can show up to practice if you'd like. Thanks for reading this if you did, and I hope to see you there!

 • Great idea, and here's another: everyone change their avatar to something non-Destiny related. Whether it be Halo or something else just to flood the forums and show we don't support these new decision making "skills" they have been practicing.
