Activision boldly lying about Destiny's underlying technology

Please read this article and decide for yourselves what to make of this. TLDR: Destiny is not being held back in any way by that fact that it's released on Xbox 360/PS3. Current Destiny is the fully envisioned product. We know that's not true partly because the Vault storage issue has already created a technical limitation for old consoles. http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2015/06/19/activision-destiny-s-future-isn_2700_t-anchored-around-the-ankle-by-last-gen-versions.aspx I love Destiny, and I almost feel bad for Bungie because I'm sure the vision for Destiny was much grander than what has been published. But what Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg says in this article really makes me reconsider whether I would buy the next installment of Destiny 2, assuming its also released on last-gen consoles. I didn't buy an Xbox One so I could play the same games I could on my old Xbox 360. It's been years since current-gen consoles launched and AAA titles should have moved on completely by now. How long will we have to play a downgraded game on current-gen consoles, and this goes for Xbox and PlayStation? Thankfully E3 showed us that Activision will have to earn our money, with lots of exciting AAA titles coming in the next 2 years. Okay rant over. Happy Xursday!

  • I can buy 20 games for my PS3 right now and install each and every one of them without a single problem. My 500gb PS3 will handle it just fine, and you're telling me my PS3 can't handle an extra page of vault space? That's BS Bungie and Activision simply do not want to give us more vault space for some unknown reasons

  • LOL what a twat, the only cross-gen games that didn't suffer greatly/ in some way were those who's engines had scalability in mind. Something I'm sure Destinies engine does not have.

    • On the ride along with DoD they went in to great detail about how much they were held behind by last Gen. They said they had to cut out 80% to 85% of the Cosmosrome because the last gen consoles couldn't handle it. They also said that last gen is the reason for alot of the windy hallways. They were put in so that less objects would be on screen at a time so that the game will keep a decent fram rate on last gen. They wanted to graphics too look as good as possible on last gen(which they do, best Xbox 360 graphics I've seen), but the this was at a sacrifice to the game's content. I have an Xbox One now and the graphics are incredible. I just wish they focused more on the actual content in the game instead of how good the graphics are.

    • There's no way they can release Destiny 2 on old consoles. It will be 3 years into the current gen by then. Judging by the fact that old console users can't buy the CE of the Taken King, I think it's safe to say they're already trying to force people to switch.

    • Spoken like a true out of touch ceo When EVERY dev house will tell you they had to comprise to support the last gen systems Now what you are not reading is his interpretation of the best which means the best compromise between old and new not that the next is the best next gen that would require 2 versions of destiny

    • I doubt 2 will come for the old gen, Destiny 1 made sense since it started development before current gen was out and the market still saw profit in it, but we have tipped over the scale now and the market is focusing on current gen much more. So Im 95% sure Destiny 2 will be current gen only.
