Just grind the strike playlist. A bunch of uncommon engrams drop during the strike and then rares at the end. If you do the dragon playlist you have a chance of getting legendary engrams, ships it even exotics also.

That is typically how I get them, but I would say that 75% of the engrams dropped on my characters are armor engrams.

Damn that sucks man. It would be nice if the gun smith would sell weapon parts instead of xur. That way it would be easier to access. Maybe you can just buy the weapons he has for sale?

I do that also when I have an excessive amount of glimmer haha. At some point I'll be done needing weapon parts until The Taken King comes out, but right now I have a decent amount of exotics to upgrade and ascend still.
