BRAND NEW console games launch in the US for $59.99 (60USD)
BRAND NEW console games launch in the UK for £39.99 (40GBP)
The Taken King costs $40 in the US.
The Taken King costs.. £40 in the UK?!*
The publisher is Activision UK Ltd, it's a digital download which means there's no import tax. The Taken King should cost between £28-£30 here when VAT is added. Where is this extra £12 coming from? You even have the cheek to reduce the Collector's Edition cost by £5. Collector's Edition costs $80 in the US, but £75* in the UK? I'm sorry but who was the incompetent moron who put together these prices?
* - Prices obtained from Bungie.net, Xbox Marketplace, PlayStation Store and Game.co.uk
Edit 1: I know that it costs £28 on Xbox. This means that either Microsoft have underpriced it, or Sony have overpriced it. Someone's made an error
Edit 2: Microsoft have RAISED the price to £40 to meet PlayStation's cost. Very sad day.
Edit 3: The newest of IGN's Destiny Fireteam Podcast mentioned our problems with the pricing for TTK for UK gamers! Listen to it here! http://uk.ign.com/videos/2015/06/27/fireteam-chat-ep-24-the-bungie-apology-igns-destiny-podcast
Edit 4: Someone created this petition, sign it!
https://www.change.org/p/bungie-activision-price-destiny-fairly-in-the-uk
Edit 5: You can now buy the Legendary Edition of The Taken King for £35.95 on a specific retailer website. That's the Destiny base game, both expansions and the Taken King expansion - let me clarify that's cheaper than the Taken King expansion on it's OWN. You can all facepalm now.
Edit 6: Bungie still have yet to make any sort of remark to this massive problem that divides the UK gaming community from Bungie and it's game. With an outcry as big as this I can't see how Bungie wouldn't yet be aware of this problem. That said, I urge you to keep bumping and spreading this forum post in the little hope that Bungie/Activision may finally realize this problem should be re-looked at.
Edit 7: Problem solved! https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/152023108/0/0
Edit 8: And, as expected, the Collector's Edition Upgrade in the PS Store/Xbox Marketplace which includes the dances, shaders and items costs a ridiculous £19.99 ($30). The same DLC costs only $20 in the US.

very much agree with your post. but, you should be in an activion forum about the inflated price point.

I've been out of school for a while, so correct me if my math is wrong. However, let's take a serious look at the price difference (US vs UK/Australia) and from what I've calculated the UK/Australia is actually paying less for The Taken King. Currency Exchange Rate. $1 = 0.65 Pounds (UK) $1 US/x = 0.65 Pounds/40 Pounds, Solving for X(US Price) = $65 US * Straight up conversion, 1 US Dollar can be exchanged for 0.65 Pounds. The issue people are having is that by using this conversion, UK/Australia gamers are paying 40 Pounds or equal to $65 US. What people are forgetting is Currency Value; if my terminology is correct. This is what you can buy with the currency you're using or it's actual VALUE. Let's use a comparison to determine the VALUE. McDonalds 4 Piece Nuggets. $1.99 US or 2.49 Pounds UK http://www.fastfoodmenuprices.com/mcdonalds-prices/ https://www.fastfoodprice.co.uk/mcdonalds-prices/ * Please correct me if I'm wrong (anyone from the UK/Australia). $1.99 US/$40 US = 2.49 UK/X Here I'm trying to solve for what The Taken King should cost in Pounds using the prices of the Nuggets. I'm using the prices of the Nuggets as a comparison because you get 4 Nuggets regardless of where you live. If you solve for X, the answer will be 50.05 Pounds. 50.05 Pounds is what people in the UK/Australia should be paying while gamers in the US pay $40. Then if you use the Currency Exchange Rate, it would cost $77 US. BUT, and it's a huge BUT (HAHA)....UK/Australia gamers aren't paying in US Dollars. They're paying in Pounds. * PLEASE stop me right now, if they're asking UK/Australia gamers to purchase everything from the US in US Dollars. Cause that would be F***ed Up. The point is...UK/Australia gamers are paying a lot less than US gamers in terms of VALUE. P.S. I can then go into an extended discussion about minimum wages and how much time of work is needed to pay for the same product. US Minimum Wage: $7.25/hour To pay for the $40 Taken King, it would take 5.5 hours of work to pay it off. UK Minimum Wage: 6.5 Pounds/hour To pay for the 40 Pound Taken King, it would take 6.15 hours of work. If the Taken King was priced by value and 50.05 Pounds, it would take 7.7 hours of work. In the end, please excuse me for my horrible attempt to explain Economics but UK/Australia gamers are getting a good deal and let's leave it at that because there are other factors that are involved between countries and I've grown tired of typing.

Edited by onlyc0ppers: 8/27/2015 10:29:31 AMOk, i've got a suggestion for those who want the game...because it looks like bungie are ignoring us completely. Gamexchange currently give £13 trade in for destiny, £19 if you have the limited ed like me. Plus you can get £7.75 for tomb raider DE, which is going on gold next month anyway! To get the free shipping you need to trade in 4 games so i threw in a coup,e of really old pc games for £1 each...so effectively i'm getting the legendary edition for £16. I'm not quite finished! Since i already have the first 2 dlc packs( im assuming they will come as separate codes in the LE) i can sell those on ebay.....i've seen the first expansion going for £30...so i'm thinking i could get my £16 back from them...basically...the taken king for free! Or hopefully even a small profit!. For those hardcore fans who dont want to give up their legendary edition this might not be for you...but i'd rather do that than pay £40....plus i'll not only get the legendary edition gear, i'll still qualify for the year 1 stuff too! Just thought i'd throw this option out there for people :)

Bump for a response already.

I can't believe Bungie are being so ignorant of this. It's another design decision that's frankly morally dubious. Respond Bungie!

Edited by Acidviolet: 8/28/2015 2:42:21 AMSo glad I'm not the only one that can see that this is a scam. Always worming their way into peoples pockets. They are just making a bad name for themselves, I can only assume that people come back to Destiny in hope that Bungie will get their heads from up their rears and look at their community properly. Edit: there is tax of 20% that is added to digital content, but even with the tax, it amounts to just under £32

Edited by The Evil Dice: 8/27/2015 10:04:48 PMI think I'll buy maybe... Like 20-30 copies of Duke Nukem Forever, it'll be about the same value as the taken king in the UK.

This doesn't come as any form of a surprise really. But that being said, £40.00 for DLC? Really? Whats going to be included in this, exactly? How is this going to be any different from the previous two Expansions? Because I've got a feeling that it'll just be the typical cookie cut content Bungie supplies us with Hype Trailers, followed by the release of the DLC, housing five story missions, a Strike, some PVP Maps and a few Exotics to mess around with. All for £40.00. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe there is more included in this Expansion. I haven't really been following up on The Taken King information / content for the up coming DLC. Now, I could understand if it was £40.00 for a Season Pass or something that supplies content for a year or so. Why they couldn't of included this Expansion in the Season Pass to begin with would of made a lot more sense (and more money for the buck). But again, with all that being said... it is Bungie. Simple logic.

Bump.

-
The last of us Season pass is around £15 and is top quality. Destiny TTK which is only 1 DLC is £40 ? -blam!- off.
-
I'm not paying it. I pay cash for my games and I can't bring myself to give that much for the content level, nerfs and stops on ascension. The absolute kicker is they haven't. Said. A. Thing. About. It.
-
If you missed it here is the full stream!! Enjoy guys

You are going to loose me bungie.
