For all those Americans out there.
If the MLS (Major Leauge Soccer) could produce a more exciting product would you watch?

Hockey is much more fun. Especially if someone is 50% canadian as I am. ps Wort wort wort....
-
That is true in all sports. I have only seen a dive called in one sport once (hockey the penalty was 5 minutes for unsportmanlike play)
Posted by: ScarletandGrey I'm a friggin goalie. Then keep your defence back.
Hmmm.... I think we could probably argue all day about the off-side rule. Suffice to say, FIFA aren't going to change it back. I think football (sorry, soccer) could only probably be improved via a rule change by doing something about all the diving / cheating that goes on. [Edited on 3/8/2005 10:48:26 AM]
Posted by: Jabba The Halo it doesn't really need to change into a mainstream sport
Erm? Football is already a mainstream sport.

terrible idea. offside was invented to stop people goal-hanging. if you've ever played in defence you'll know that goal hanging is the worst thing ever. chelsea v barcelona on tv tonight should be exciting anyway, without any rule changes. i love the champions league.

If they would get rid of the off sides rule it will free up the forwards. And allow for more runs down field.
-
i think socer could benefit from a smaller field excitement-wise, but then it would make it more like every other sport out there......i hate soccer, but it does have a large fan base, so it doesn't really need to change into a mainstream sport......we already have enough of those

Why is more scoring opportunities more exciting? The whole excitement of football (soccer) comes from the fact that goals are rare, and when it comes close it can get quite exciting, and then when one occurs it is quite a major event, unlike what seems to happen in American footbal and basket goal, when points are scored very frequently.

I know of one way that would be able to make the game more exciting with more scoring opportunities.
-
yeah, just to hear the announcer yell "goal" at the top of his lungs for a minute straight
