Not all are charged with murder only the driver who, in efforts to give him a hard ride to jail succeeded in breaking his neck.
Others are charged in their various roles. The guy was doing nothing illegal the polices own investigation so far has ruled it an unlawful arrest, no probable cause exsisted.
Plus this rough ride thing isn't a single instance its been happening for years, their commanding officers share some responsibility for not stopping this illegal practice sooner.
This all being said it's unlikely they will get convictions, unless one or more of them testifies against the others. This is unlikely they have had plenty if time to straighten out their stories, and the only other witness is dead.
Baltimore will burn when they're found not guilty. Rule of law only exsists when the people have faith in the system when you can arrest and kill people doing nothing wrong without consequences the faith in the system is lost and society falls.

1. There was probable cause for the arrest, he had 18 drug charges and they believed he had more drugs. 2. The police are not responsible for his death, he faceplanted into a wall after he crashed on his bike fleeing the police. 3. I Agree nobody will get convicted and Baltimore will burn.
1. There was probable cause for the arrest, he had 18 drug charges and they believed he had more drugs. 2. The police are not responsible for his death, he faceplanted into a wall after he crashed on his bike fleeing the police. 3. I Agree nobody will get convicted and Baltimore will burn.
1.previous arrest history is not probable cause for arrest. Again I will say the police departments own investigation found they had no reason to arrest him. They said it themselves. Originally they claimed it was because of a knife he had but later admitted it was a small legal pocket knife. 2. The police medical examinare ruled cause off death was an injury to the back of his neck caused by a bolt in the back of the police van. It is police procedure to secure the prisoner in the back with seat belts since he is hand cuffed and cannot do it himself. They admitted they failed to do this. Not doing this contributed to his death as ruled by the police medical examiner, and this resulted in them being charged as well. 3. It is a common and well known police tactic baltimore punish prisoners in the back by not securing him and giving them a rough ride, this time it got a guy killed and when they are declared not guilty, faith in the system there is gonna fall apart, and not without good reason.

He ran at the sight of police which, given his criminal history, gave them reason to chase him.

It doesn't give them cause to arrest him. If you escape from jail and run from the police is illegal, if there is a warrant out for your arrest and you run from police its illegal, if you are doing a crime and the police come after you to arrest you and you run it's illegal, if you just see a cop and run away it is not illegal. Admittedly it doesn't look good but it is not a crime. Plus there is the fact that it doesn't even matter even if he was selling drugs to a pregnant 10 year old right in front of police on camera they're not allowed to kill someone in a van when they arrest him no matter what he did, but again in this instance even the police admit he was doing nothing illegal. I read this guys criminal history he was a small time drug dealer all around a horrible guy, I don't dispute that, what people don't seem to understand is that no matter what you do police are not allowed to assault you or kill you when you are in custody.

Running gives them cause to chase. When they caught him they found that he was carrying an illegal weapon on him which IS cause for arrest.

Edited by Eluminary: 5/2/2015 6:16:52 PMThe police admitted that the "weapon" that he had was a small completely legal pocket knife. Which was in his pocket not in his hand and he was not brandishing it In fact I have a Leatherman Charge TTI on my belt right now is larger than the one that he had

The reports I heard said it was a butterfly knife, which last I heard were illegal in Baltimore, and pocket or hand, he still tempted fate when he ran from them rather than keeping his composure and not giving them any reason to suspect him of anything. I agree that the police handled this situation like morons, but the situation wouldn't need any handling at all if he hadn't done anything to catch their attention in the first place,

They were originally saying that, but the press conference a week after the incident they clarified it saynit was a small legal pocket knife. It now becomes a war public opinion it's a known fact that people believe the original lie and not the retraction so they leak it was a switchblade then later say it was a small pocket knife it was legal people believe the first thing.

He ran from the police when they stopped to talk to him

Running is not illegal, commiting a crime then running away is. Like I said the departments own report said they had no reason to arrest him, and is nkw one of the things the cops that did arrest him are charged with.
-
If you run from the police when they try to talk to you, that looks really suspicious. Have you ever seen a cop show? They get a lot of things wrong, but that part is right. Running when they try to talk/question you is bad

Its not cause for arrest or assult or murder though, they did all 3.
