People are always arguing that only science or a God can be true. Not both, but why not both? I mean how could all that we know as our universe just "BE" without atleast a small nudge from a God? Perhaps he set things in motion and then took a step back to let things naturally run their course?
I'm not very religious and i don't know the bible inside and out, but wasn't the sun created on like the 3rd day or something to that effect?
And if we use the sun to tell what is 1 day, then couldn't the first days have been thousands or millions of years?
Just a thought...
Like i said i'm not that religious so i'm sure i'm missing things, but maybe some of you guys can offer some more knowledgable opinions?

Terrible religious b8 m8, some one should assassan8 u for this bad b8. I cannot rel8 or appreci8 this b8, in fact I h8 this b8 and will give it a r8 of .8/8 which is not a gr8 r8 m8. Please don't cre8 anymore bad b8 like this cause it deserves to be met with h8 by all the gr8 m8s who like to r8 b8 with h8.

Science is mans attempt to understand what God has already mastered.
-
It can. The pope believes in the big bang because it supports the theory of an all mighty being. Not many scientist has made theories of how the bing bang was sparked.

Science is based on fact, religion in general is based on faith. If your scared of death, or need someone to tell you how to live, go to church. If you can be an independent strong person person living in reality, put your faith in science, something that ACTUALLY MAKES EVERYONES LIFE BETTER. Not the "afterlife"
-
Is it the christian God? Because if it is, science contradicts it on several points.
-
Insanity and logic are two opposing ideologies.
-
True science and true religion is the same thing
-
A deistic God could, the God of Abraham can't though.
-
Only if scientist are willing to admit to religious entities that God created science.
And we all know that will never happen....
-
Science is what God has given us to understand his majestic creation. Many people believe that their manmade dating techniques and misinterpretations of the Bible are legitimate evidence to prove that there is not a God but how you look at anything in nature and not believe it wasn't made by God! Its too.incredible!
-
Sure as long as religious belief doesnt block scientific advances.
-
For sure. I'm an atheist, but I used to be Catholic. I saw the bible not necessarily as truth, but as more of a handbook to life, especially the Old Testament.
-
Yep science points to God.
-
God is a man made construct to feel less lonely about the scary truth of existence. Everything about God is viewable only by the lease of mankind. Sorry chaps, but FKCU religion and totally go FKCU a bunch of
Should I state the obvious...?
This is the bane of human evolution. Blah blah blah...we could go all night and I would invite the 3 horsemen with me to battle the ignorant masses on the hypocrisy and stupidity of religiosity. Sorry for the expletives, sometimes it needs expression.

If you take some particular claim like "God created the universe", there are a couple of fundamental issues with it: 1. It presupposes God's existence; and 2. There is no evidence to suggest God did Scientifically the hypothesis - the original claim - cannot be tested because it is unfalsifiable. However, this does not mean the conclusion is either "yes" or "no", it means there is no conclusion at all (see: null hypothesis). So, when people say things like "science disproves God" or "science proves God", you can just reject everything they say as unsubstantiated.

In my eyes god is someone who can do anything, anytime he wants. He can suddenly create a piano out of thin air and isn't bound by the laws of physics. No A god who isn't bound by the laws of physics can't exist, and a god who is bound by the laws of physics isn't a god.
-
Neither can exist without the other.
-
Yes. Science is the attempt to find out "how". Religion is the attempt to find out "why". Seeking knowledge in any form is an Important part of what makes humanity special. We are inquisitive. And we can't help but try to define our existence by any means possible. And quite frankly.. trivializing either until there's solid evidence for or against is a blatant misuse of the scientific method that people seem to put so much faith in.
-
Maybe, if people would listen to the new pope (I love this guy, he's neat!) and get on board with the rest of the human race and stop acting like children who don't get their way. BTW I'm a former athiest, now agnostic.

I'm a catholic and at my school we get taught that God started the Big Bang and that the bible is a metaphor and was not meant to be taken literally which I agree with. Just my opinion.
-
Edited by dendrox: 5/27/2015 4:43:51 AMYes, the bible is probably a metaphor and if you think critically then it can coexist with science (apart from creationism vs evolution, but that's debatable). However I do not believe that it has any truth behind it for various reasons which I will not discuss as I do not want to get into it. I do believe that there is some sort of greater power though. What you stated is the exact definition of deism.

Edited by Donkey_Hotay: 5/27/2015 12:15:20 AMpeople who voted yes: those who are religious but dont want to admit that science answers more questions than their centuries-old book does, but are too afraid to admit they might not be as religious as they thought they were.
-
No because religion is based off of a belief that cannot be proven, while science is based off educated guesses that are proven or disproven.
checkmate
-
Perhaps God of the gaps does but any of the organized religions go directly against what science says.
