Separation of church and state means that the church can't play a role in congress or make laws. It never says anything about religion.
I often hear democrats say it's unconstitutional to not allow gay marriage. It is but it doesn't fall under separation of church and state, it falls under freedom of expression and rights. Gay marriage should be allowed, if you follow the constitution

Edited by KiNg_george19: 3/31/2015 3:29:42 PMUnder the constitution gay marriage could be allowed(and is in some states), but also under the constitution you can't force a pastor to marry gays because that is against our freedom of religion.

Amendment I kind of settled this for us.

Marriage is a legal document that has something to do with money and taxes regardless of religious beliefs in the United States of America.

That law can not be more to the spirit of religious freedom... people can be butt hurt all they like, but this country was founded on religious freedom, to discriminate against private businesses' religious beliefs is as UnAmerican as it gets. No one, under this law, is in danger of losing life, liberty or the pursuit of happiness. We are a nation that has Separation of church AND state, not separation of church FROM state.

Edited by ShaughnTr0n: 3/31/2015 3:13:42 PMI don't see how it doesn't call under separation of church and state still. Yes, you should be able to express yourself, but if expressing yourself is discrimination, then I don't care who or what you are.
Thanks for posting something a little more discussion worthy.
This is what happens when we rule by the letter of the law but not the spirit in which it was written. That's frowned upon over here; I don't think it's actually illegal but you can lose your job for it.

Edited by superassassin364: 3/31/2015 3:06:25 PMIf you enforce your religious view of marriage on everybody else, it's unconstitutional.
