If I speak to people that have been doing the raids for the majority of the time, they speak about hundreds of shards and energy. Not to mention their reaching Level 32 earlier and having weapons generally superior to counterparts in the Iron Banner, or via crucible drops.
Its an unreasonable im-balance in player performance/acquisitions.
I think Destiny would do well to either: (1) close the gap by greatly increasing the rewards for playing in crucible; or (2) just straight out announce that destiny is a Raiding & Nightfalling game and the Crucible is just an ancillary activity, so if players prefer the crucible, they should look to another game developer.
EDIT: The reasons for Raiding or not-raiding are inconsequential.

Okay bud, the Crucible is merely a side activity for players to combat other players, just like any other PvP mode in a gear grinding game. You get better gear for playing the core mode which is PvE, and Raid gear stays Raid only because it is the hardest part of the game. The best crucible players do both PvE and PvP so if you want to match them you do the same. This isn't CoD, you can't just skip the story content and go straight to PvP and get rewarded for doing nothing (okay some do but lemme get to that). Now I do play crucible and I've noticed the really bad drop rates and how unfairly loot is awarded, some people just afk and get exotics which isn't okay. Players with a higher score should definitely be awarded, or players that reach a certain score in the game. Some sort of reward system should be there though
