all right i give how exactally is damage mesured in this game

if my weapon is 331 attack and has an impact of 25 what will be the damage per bullet, I know there are different damages for body and precision hits the number system is weird to me so I'm interested in learning the foundation of the damage system Edit # 1 (4/15/15): so this is the percentage of damage you do against enemies in destiny if you want maximum damage Guardian = light LV 30 Attack of 300/10 = 30 and lower enemies for 100% damage Guardian = light LV 31 Attack of 310/10 = 31 and lower enemies for 100% damage Guardian = light LV 32 Attack of 320/10 = 32 and lower enemies for 100% damage Guardian = light LV 33 Attack of 331/10 = 33 and lower enemies for 100% damage Edit # 2 (4/15/15): LilHorsenuts added a link to the weapon calculations which can be pretty tricky to understand but bear with it as bungie want to keep us guessing. https://www.bungie.net/en-US/Forum/Post/105029453/0/0 Specifically, scroll down the post and read the word doc he linked about weapon damage. Has all equations he discovered.

  • It depends on the weapon type too

  • This is what I've based my opinion on. Note, I said opinion because this is someone else's hard work but I think they nailed it: https://www.bungie.net/en-US/Forum/Post/105029453/0/0 Specifically, scroll down the post and read the word doc he linked about weapon damage. • Not saying anyone here is wrong, but I would love to see some actual evidence supporting the "facts" being tossed. Coincidentally, it's interesting how many versions of the facts there are.

        • 331 is the dps it does or damage per second if all shots hit your target in a nominal area aka non critical hit. this number is changed based upon your level to the enemy you are attacking, if you are lower than the enemy level you do less damage based upon how many levels you are lower. at 2 levels lower you do 40% less damage to an enemy with the same 331 weapon as someone that is the same level as that enemy using that same weapon would do. which is why at level 5 you could not hurt or kill a level 8 enemy very easily and why in the nf or strikes if it says level 30 and you are a 28 you will die quicker for not only do you do less damage you take more if you are lower than the enemy attacking you.

          • So many wrong answers here. Weapon damage is determined by fire rate and impact. The attack rating (300, 33q, etc) determines the effectiveness of the weapon based on the level of your enemies. Against a level 30 target, a 300 attack weapon will perform at 100%. Against a level 31 enemy, it will do less damage than normal. To be 100% effective, a weapon needs 300 attack for level 30 targets, 310 for level 31 targets, 320 for level 32 targets, and 330 for level 33 targets. This is why you need a 331 weapon for hard mode crota, because the enemies are level 33. Damage is additionally modified based on your own level compared to your target. If you are the same level or higher than your enemy, you will do 100% damage (assuming your weapon meets the criteria listed above). If an enemy is higher level than you, your weapon will do less damage. Neat fact: a level 20 player with a 300 attack weapon will do the exact same damage to a level 20 enemy that a level 30 player with the same weapon will.
