Comparisons between Mac and PC

For a laptop, what would be some reasons to get one over the other? At the moment, I see that Mac's OS is a bit simpler aaaaaand iTunes? Reason is I need to figure out if I'm going to be buying a Mac or PC. GOGOGO!!! [Edited on 11.19.2012 9:02 PM PST]

 • I have both a PC and a Mac laptop, I use my Mac more because it's just really user-friendly and it's smaller so I can bring it to college, but it's overpriced, I probably could've gotten a better PC for the money I spent on my Mac.

 • It depends entirely what you're going to be using them for. For music production and composition? Get a Mac. Seriously. There are far more avenues for that line of work (ask Marty, he'll tell you!). For digital arts (video editing, Photoshop, Flash)? Eh, it's debatable between Mac and PC. But if you're getting Windows, don't get anything else other than Windows 7 or XP. Vista is a serious drain on performance, so it will also be a detrimental drain on art creation. iTunes exists on both Mac and PC. I hardly see why that's a determining factor. For gaming? Oh, definitely PC. Like it or not, there are definitely limitations on the availability of games on the Mac. That's barely debatable. I'll eventually be getting a MacBook or something for iOS development, but currently I'm stuck with a Windows Vista PC until I get moar dosh.

 • Depends on what interface you prefer and any required applications. I prefer OS X's interface because of the global menubar, application sorting instead of window sorting, etc... Its integrated PDF handling comes in handy, as well as it's BSD userland. It can be annoying with the limited game support, but I just boot into Windows for that. Most of my time is spent doing other work anyway.

 • This should be about what are you planning to do on your computer. I create and edit videos for school, so I plan on getting a MacBook Pro in the near future, because I love using Final Cut. I still prefer my PC for games, along with my consoles. Obviously, PC has a larger audience, and thus more software, but I think that Apple and third party developers do a great job supporting the Mac App Store. [Edited on 11.20.2012 12:39 AM PST]

 • I don't want tiles on my desktop at least Apple and most Linux distros understand what the difference between a desktop and a touch device is. Also, I don't want some developer to make a solution for me. I expect Microsoft to do their operating systems correctly, especially when I hand them money. If I have to throw money then I would prefer to throw it at Apple's direction rather than staying with Windows 8 which is crapware. I don't think that "Windows 8 sucks" I think Microsoft's approach to whatever they think is a good idea for the future of desktop or even computing to be lunatic of over-drunk designers that were made to develop a UI experience for a touch device and completely alienating the classic users. (The desktop won't die now, not in 10 years and maybe it will be around in 50) And when it comes to mobile integration at least OSX handles that better.
Posted by: Traffic Cones Oh come on Windows 8 isn't that bad, its just that its made to be very very easy to use system which the PC market hates which makes up a lot of the PC culture so thats why people think that Windows 8 sucks. I think it supports indie developers quite well with some modding files and a marketplace for their creations.
• Personally PC's are better because its more compatible with the world and everyone knows how to operate windows (besides 8). For gaming PC unless you have an ungodly addiction to touch phone games. Generally if your just someone who needs a comp for work, music/ casual stuff get a PC I think its more suited to casuals although the apples look nice.

 • I like PC's as desktops but I prefer Macs for laptops. I feel like due to the lack of good specs on the mac gives me an incentive to work harder/focus on the -blam!- I need done, whereas PC's in general make me want to game. Yes, I have very low will power. Up to you, though.
I'd argue the opposite. OS X is Unix, so it comes prepackaged with Perl, Ruby, Python, among other scripting languages; has native SSH; etc. If that's all you're concerned about, I agree it's not the best choice, and you'd probably be better off getting a cheap laptop and slapping Ubuntu on it. If you don't mind spending a little more, though, MacBooks are a nice option because they're lightweight, look nice, and the OS has a great UI.
Correction / agree: OS X implements POSIX, and yes, is technically UNIX opposed to "UNIX-like". Agreed in that they're fine if not great in general for programming (not sure about glut though), because of the above.

 • If you're looking for an every day laptop and can afford it, I would personally recommend a Mac. If you do any programming though (and you don't plan on using Xcode) I would recommend staying away from an Apple product.

 • OSX is a bit more user friendly, but I primarily use it because it's overall better for video editing, graphic design, (and music production if you're into that). If you don't do that kind of stuff, then probably roll with a PC.

 •
Posted by: ABotelho
Posted by: Chalupa King117
Posted by: ABotelho OSX isn't necessarily simpler; it's just harder to break. As for iTunes, why do you need it?
Music and stuff, despite iTunes being total junk for organizing music.
Yaaaa, that's what I was gonna say. You should probably look into a different media player. iTunes gets more and more bloated with every update.
Any recommendation?
