Like many people I'm pretty sure I have ADHD. Can a regular doctor prescribe Adderall or other medicines of that type? I don't have the money to see a specialist, so I was wondering if a regular doctor will prescribe it.
Only US citizens answer this please. The laws on this may be different in other countries.

I would think yes, it's possible but they probably wouldn't because you need to be evaluated. So technically yes, but probably not. That just a guess though, since I live in the UK and they can. But medical health is free so...
Posted by: NintenToad64 Laziness and being more interested in video games doesn't make you have ADHD. Don't med yourself.
Cool story considering I haven't turned my xbox on to do anything but watch Netflix in like a month. So, you lose my good sir. Thanks for playing though.

I've taken it in college - my roommate didn't have a prescription but relied on it for late night studying to help him focus. Personally, I didn't feel much different. So while, yes, it is illegal, I don't think anyone can die because they took Adderall that they bought from someone. Not like I'm advocating crack cocaine.
you are advocating meth though... Ritalin/Adderall is amphetamine salts in a capsule that is released into the brain where the stimulant has a calming effect on the person's mind. psychology is cool. clinical is pretty boring though.

I have personally found that 2 of these has the same effect if you cannot get a prescription. 250 mg(per can) of caffeine can do amazing things.
If you don't actually have the disorder, the medicine will usually do a very poor job in helping you concentrate. It's almost entirely psychological when people buy this drug off the street and take it to study.
And this is why I hate asking about it, because people like y'all just take it as a study drug which makes everyone else stereotype people who should really be taking it because they really have a hard time concentrating.
Posted by: FatM
Posted by: Carnage_A51 Lol, Fat Marshall, why you mad bro? No, seriously, why, I don't remember us arguing? I thought we were buddies, but you disappeared(that or I'm a very forgetful person).
Lol we never argued because I blocked you, but than that autistic dumbass Paco invited me to your -blam!- little butt-slammer party, then you decided to lag me out of my internet, resulting in, to be honest, me becoming a bit butthurt and you becoming a giant -blam!- douche -blam!-. lolz I'm not mad anymore though. Could honestly care less. It's just funny that you only come to this website to make retarded topics like this one. My ass makes better and more discussion-worthy topics. Also, tell me Paco's new GT. I want to see how bad his autism got over the past few months.
Lol, I haven't talked to him in a while. He kept offering me points to be on my list and I kept getting them but never adding him. He eventually got the picture I hope. But, no dude, I don't do that stuff anymore. That was at least a good year or so ago. Since then I completely despise people who hit offline. It's so pointless. I'm more focused on getting my business up and running, and going to college. Hitting people offline is just childish. I don't remember hitting you off, but if I did, sorry about that. But yeah dude, I definitely don't do that stuff anymore. It was just a phase. You should hit me up on live. Same tag.
Posted by: Da Econo Troll I'm sure the medicine helps some. It is just that in a lot of these threads, you'll see plenty of people who took it and it just made them jittery or any other number of side effects. Some stopped taking it and reported it going away. I just find it hard to fathom growing out of a brain disorder.
Those people either didn't have the disorder to begin with, or the medicine simply didn't work for them. No medicine works for everyone.
Posted by: roman arrow12
Posted by: Da Econo Troll ADD/ADHD doesn't exist for 99% of people. Most people who have taken it will tell you: 1. It didn't help 2. It made them feel terrible 3. They stopped taking it and "grew" out of their disease
The NIH estimates that between 3 and 5 percent of children have ADD/ADHD. For adults, it's around 4.7. Meta-analysis (which I hate) shows that about 70% of those diagnosed and take the prescribed medicine improve in the short term. There are no individual placebo-controlled clinical studies that I can find. Basically, ADD/ADHD is not only easily diagnostic (especially with new research showing you may be able to find indicators on an MRI), but there are various of ways to treat it, both medicinally and psychologically. Wouldn't it be best for a doctor to make the decision?
I'm sure the medicine helps some.
Posted by: Garland ADD and ADHD are the two most over-diagnosed "conditions" in the world.
And, I agree with that. Most people who take it are young kids who are just hyper. I've grown out of my hyper childish phase but still find it very hard to focus on work. I'm sure no one NEEDS medicine for ADHD, but I think it would HELP me. So, I would like to try it at least.
Posted by: Garland ADD and ADHD are the two most over-diagnosed "conditions" in the world.
technically, they're both the same thing now, just two different forms in the latest DSM it is over diagnosed, but with doctors always trying to peddle the latest medicines for Ad money, can you really expect it not to be?
Posted by: ultratog1028
Posted by: Carnage_A51 Like many people I'm pretty sure I have ADHD.
Really? How many things are you thinking about at the moment? Getting distracted =/= adhd. constant in ability to focus even when you want to focus on work = good chance of ADHD.
Like even when I want to focus on something(as in something I'm very interested in) I find myself doing something else within a few minutes without realizing. Like, if I sit down and say "hey, I'm going to do this", chances are that within 5 minutes I'll be doing something else without realizing it. Then, several minutes go by before I realize I got side tracked... It's ridiculous.
