How Can I Slim Down?

Ok, so here's the sitch: I am 18 years old, and this is my senior year in high school. I am 6'2", and weigh 224lb, but I'm not really "fat", I guess I'm just heavy-set, kinda like Bane... I am planning to enter the U.S. military in June, after I graduate. Either Air Force or possibly Navy, and I want to fly UAVs (drones). My ASVAB score that I took at school was 84, which I guess is pretty great. My problem is that I'm not super confident in my physical prowess, and I'd like to change that. I'm NOT looking to lose a ton of weight, or get COMPLETELY ripped, I just want to trim and slim some body fat. Any suggestions Flood? Less salt? Personal experience? Please help meh!

  • High Intensity Interval Training. Basically when you do cardio, instead of a moderate pace for an extended duration, do high intensity for short periods, take rest, repeat. Also wear as much clothing as possible whilst doing cardio as the hotter you are, the more efficiently you burn fat. On that note, look into thermogenic supplements that raise your body temperature for a short time increasing fat loss. Eat clean and drink an absurd amount of water.

Look up the IIFYM calculator. Calculate your daily caloric requirement, then aim to consistently eat below about 300-500 calories below that. Get a good workout routine, track your macronutrients (carbs, fat, protein) religiously. If you do this, you WILL lose weight and gain muscle.

Exercise. I am 6 foot 1, but I was too skinny before I started going to the gym. I gained 15 pounds in 4.5 months, in muscle from going to the gym everyday. It's tough but so worth it m8.

You don't need to lose weight what you need is to start lifting and gain muscle

      • Just start slow. If you aren't physically active now just try going for a 30 min walk a few times a week. After that go to jogging or weight training. Nutritionally I advise starting slow, if this is your first time dieting. DRINK WATER! I cannot advise this enough. Drinking a gallon a day will help with appetite control and flush out impurities in the body along with getting rid of water weight from sodium levels. Start slow just get rid of the obvious bad things like cookies and sweets then change the bad carbs sources like chips to whole grains. Losing the weight is one thing but adjusting your life style to the point where it never comes back is the battle, that I still struggle with too. Pm if you have more questions.

      • Well if you mean slim down as in cut fat then just run about 2 miles a day. Maybe do some swimming, and sit ups. Watch your calorie, fat, and sugar intake. Eat white meat and brown rice with a protein shake after a workout. Get to a gym and start lifting. If you want more muscle then lift heavy. Go light weight and a bunch of reps if you just want to tone. Just put the headphones in, pick a song and go to work.

      • I'm 18 as well and got the opposite problem. 5'8" and 135 lbs.... And I got a 95 on my asvab. I'm considering bulking up and maybe joining up.

      • Exercise at least 3 times a week. Anything less than that and you are wasting your time. Don't like exercise? Don't think about joining the military. Even UAV crew still do PT. Get use to running.if you can't run 2-3 mile even at a decent jog then you won't get far. Easiest way to do what you want on preparation for army is find out how many consecutive push ups you can do. Take that number and half it. Do the same for sit ups. The. 3 times a week run 2-3 miles and then do the halved number of push ups/sit ups 3 times with 30 second break between each set. Every 2 weeks try and beat your run time Nd the amount of push ups/sit ups you can achieve . Basic preparation which will achieve your goal.

      • I would cut down on fast food and swim. You don't have to know how to be a good swimmer, treading alone works too but swimming at least close to an hour a day would help a bunch.

      • Do a bunch of M, then dance at raves. Adopt the culture. You'll lose weight in no time. And become fit, in a weird way.

        • I weigh same amount as you and am roughly the same height and I'm definitely not fat. Don't be so self conscious. But if it really concerns you cutting out some lifting and adding in more cardio always helps. That's what I did during soccer season to stay fast

        • Only have a maximum of 500-750 calories a day for a month straight. I lost 25 pounds that way in one month.
