The head rolled across the desolate landscape, its clack-clacking writing a sad song. The shade of god looked at me, his sword dry still, for it's most recent meal had been served dead. The shade said
"The body was weak and the mind unwilling."
He paused, then spoke.
"It's better this way."
I was uncertain, what did he want?
"Yes,"
I said at last. His gaze burned into my mind,
"They wont come to avenge their king. When they see his head, a skull devoid of all human thoughts, they will despise him. Take him for a traitor."
I said nothing.
"They will shore up defenses and when my horde does not come they will feel, in time, as if the danger had passed"
"Then you will strike?" I said venomously. "Then you will slaughter the people and burn their crops?"
He was silent for a long time.
"I am not a monster." He whispered. His voice a secret that we strained to hear.
He raised his sword and brought forth from the shadow a shield forged from neversteel.
"Do you dare to judge death?"
I raised my spear in response and lunged. We danced the deadly dance to a song only sung in blood and death. His sword screamed for death, flashing to and fro. I was hard pressed. Never before had i felt such power. I berated myself, "he is a god, never forget." His face showed no emotion although now, among the dark he had no face. Only shadow within a dark helm. I stabbed at him but to avail. He parried my blow then swung his sword and it was over. I fell upon my knees, his sword kissing my throat. I looked up at him and saw only spite. He whisked his sword away and turned his back to me.
"Leave me." He said.
I left him there, amongst the bones and corpses. The shade of god.
What do you think? If you like it i can post more, i have some poems too if anyone would care to read them :)
