Most patrol mission say that you're doing the said mission to help the city. This sparked an idea. How about doing patrol missions gradually upgrade the tower?
Example: All guardians do craps loads of patrol missions. By the end of 6 months or so if they completed a combined total of, say 100,000,000 patrol missions something is added to the tower? Here are some ideas.
Shipwright missions: Wider variety of ships, better stats, new colors or parts, discounts, etc
Outfitter missions: New emblems, shaders, etc
Gunsmith missions: New/ better guns, gun shaders?
Cryptarch missions: Better engrams, stocks a legendary engram once a month or so
General missions: Adds new areas to the tower, adds to shops.
Here's a scenario. It's been six months and guardians have completed a grand total of 1,000,000,000 patrol missions. Bungie thinks this is pretty cool and decides to add a shooting range to the tower. Another 6 months and the same situation. Bungie adds more vault space. 6 months later, same deal. Add an area to recruit for raids or weeklies.
Post your thoughts or some of your own ideas.

I think, It would be little missions from any NPC. Think of it like Dark Cloud. Never play it? Go play it, great game. Anyways, NPCS tell you what they want/need to make the Tower better for themselves and us. This could grow into making the tower into a huge city. Keep the central hub, can give players a home, where they could have a better storage, and each room,(if possible) could be their own server room so there would be no randoms going in and out. You'd have to have the owner inside the room to enter it, only if they allowed it(Friends, Private, Public, inv) And each quest could be for large as pieces of stuff. But no radar. Some vague directions. Something like "I've heard rumors of a future thing on the planet Mars, it's said to be in a land of scabs". or someone smarter can go ofrom there,. And when each side is build, the Tower gets better. Maybe even adding a library to were would could read our Grimoire cards in the game, and maybe have those cards ingame, give some extra info the ones on Bungie don't, due to a simple "While in the Library, the Librarian discovered a bunch of hidden writing on the cards"(National treasure stlye), We could even build trophy rooms and gun racks for our house. manniquins for our gear so we have something to look at. This could be endless if done personally and greatly increase the amount of fun players. We grind everyday for the same crap(3 months, 2 chars, still haven't gotten a single Vision of Confluence). Or here, look at that Skyrim expansion when they said you could BUILD your own house. We need exactly. Want a plot of land? Go kill the Nightfall boss Want walls? Go to _____ location and get what you can Want to add better materials to that? Go find the Exo hidden in the Cosmodrome. He's an expect This would bring in so many MMO RPG elements. This crap is why people have played and put so much time and energy into it. Look at Final Fantasy 14. They released Houses like 2 years ago and people are still going crazy for them, filling them with Trophys of all their hard work. I think since we're getting expansions and stuff, all I've been doing is breaking down any gear that's not 33+ light, which sucks, because I worked hard for my VoG set but I'd still look to look at my Hunter and Warlock gear sets. Or even put weapons I don't use but look amazingly sweet on the way. The city is coded to be large. Just clear out a big of that code, do a beta or two, have people report hacks. Make it so that if anyone finds a dupe hack it will not help him at all. Each wall would be 4 quests, each item you got is a different named item, same for the roof and floor. Then you could just have other NPCs tell you were to find the various things I suggested but could only get 1 every 3 days(1 week is too long, 1 day is too short) Code my idea and you just made a crapload of people love you

Sorta like a weekly challenge system, but long term? I agree if there were short term goals included. Example: Community completes 10M Moon patrols in a week, a "Researcher" appears in the Tower handing out Helium Filaments.

I've wanted this kind of immersion for a long time! Bungie, take a gander!
-
LOL who the shit actually does patrols. Morons.
-
Not a bad idea, but Bungie has their hands full trying to fix the raid right now
-
You know what bounty i NEVER do? 6 Patrol missions on any of the planets/moons. If this idea of yours ever happened then i would actually do it for once.. but right now i just can't be bothered with patrol misisons.. especially the ones where it's "go all the way over here and scan" etc.

Gun shaders=everything freaking good in this world.

-
This is awesome
-
But yall do realise they don't care to put that much effort into this game right? Think about it... They said they wanted to gives us things to do almost weekly so as to have new experiences all the time. What did we get? The queens bounties (which was absolutely atrocious and never fixed), and iron banner(first time utter fail). Soooo yeah i wouldn't even bother asking cause they ain't listening. Just sayin

Ships have stats? Lol you must mean the stupid green sparrows she sells...
-
Bungie and new content do not mix well together.
-
There's patrol missions for the cryptarch?
-
It's a good idea, but I think that leveling up through the various shop owners should be an individual thing instead of a community wide event, but sure this idea is good. Bump.
-
Would be nice, but unlikely.
-
Love this idea, bump!

Yes please. I would patrol all day.
