Skyrim has decent gameplay, but an amazing story/lore/immersion. Destiny has amazing gameplay, but meh story. Both of the worlds are beautiful.
And yet, I love both games :D
Some clarifications: when I say Skyrim's story, I'm referring to all of the side quests, faction quests, etc., not just the main quest. Since Destiny is only a main quest, I'm including everything as part of Skyrim's.
Oh hey cool, this post is on the highest-rated page. Everyone had some pretty strong opinions about their games! :D
Also, let's keep it civil guys and gals. Don't insult people, or their opinions, just because they disagree with you.

Skyrim is 1000000 times better than destiny. Deeper story More variation Better levelling system "patrol" mode is actually immersive and huge! Only advantage destiny have is its co-op and pvp mode. When elder scrolls online drops for xbox one I doubt I'll ever touch destiny again.

Argonians are the most kickass race I've ever seen

You can't really compare the two games. They are vastly different from one another. One is a Ginormous RPG, while the other is a short storied FPS. Plus they are from different companies. Not a fair comparison. While I do give you the fact that Destiny does have some really good gameplay, it lost a lot of people on the RPG front, myself included. I have all but stopped playing Destiny because of that. However, that being said, if you break down and use the literal definition of an RPG, then every game you play is an RPG because every game you play you take on the role of the character to *insert game goal here*

Just goes to show how much of a challenge it is to get online multiplayer right. Morrowind, oblivion and skyrim were amazing, but elder scrolls online sucks monkey scrotum. Given the track record of current online multiplayer titles (including the likes of Gta) I'd say destiny had a solid foundation. We just need the rest of the construct...

In terms of development value Bethesda is superior. Even with all of the glitches. That in turn increases purchasing value in my Opinion. I have been happy with all of my Bethesda purchases. Destiny not so much. I couldn't in good conscience recommend the game to friends and co-workers. That being said I and my friends that did get suckered into buying Destiny have an excellent time sink... as that is all there is to the game.

shit ill play skyrim until i die if i have to
-
Hmm. I honestly wasn't too impressed with skyrims story. It was over so quickly, and even the side quests were bland and repetitive. The Dawnguard DLC was good. There was very little immersion for me in either game. Honestly haven't been fully immersed in a game since Dragon Age Origins...and that includes WoW (wow had WAY too many Easter eggs to be immersive for me. Harrison Jones anyone?)

Skyrim is godly 3 years old and didnt cost 500M ....
-
Morrowind is the best game of all time. Skyrim is great, Oblivion just good. Overall TES series has amazing lore/story though.
-
The people saying Skyrim is bad have either A. Never played more than an hour of the game B. A seriously skewed perception of games in general because of Destiny Or C. No interest in RPGs And there are some who have valid arguments... Who am I kidding this is the Destiny forums.

Amazing gameplay?

Edited by NeverAlfredo: 12/21/2014 11:17:36 PMLololololol lemme tell you about Skyrim. •Boring Story •Boring combat •Boring controls •Dumb plot •You can beat the whole game in a week(side quests and all) •Overpriced DLCs •Even on hardest difficulty, all you're doing is spamming RT till they die. Fun •Repetitive If you want to say "Anti-Dark Souls" I'll back you up in a second. Edit: lol at all this butthurt kids because I don't like their "perfect" game. News flash, nobody cares what people from the Internet have to say. I suggest you think the same. You should not be getting mad over a post on the Internet just because it conflicts with your own personal opinion. You can disagree, but don't get all angry and blindly rage through this thread because of it. Little kids, man. Grow up.

Destinys story is not meh it is -blam!-ing garbage

When comparing both games overall, Skyrim puts Destiny into the dirt. Destiny isn't even in the same league that Skyrim is, not even close to it either. Destiny is a game with little content and depth with the only good aspect about it is the gunplay itself. Everything else about it, the story, level design, loot system, everything else about it is mediocre at best or simply atrociously designed. Now, although Skyrim is far better than Destiny, that doesn't necessarily mean Skyrim is all that good either as an RPG in its own genre. As an RPG, Skyrim is very lackluster in actual depth in some mechanics, quest design, and most definitely in its writing. Bethesda consist of just god awful writers for their stories, and if not one of the worst. Morrowind wasn't too bad, but it wasn't anything spectacular either. Oblivion wasn't too good, Fallout 3 consisted of too much nonsensical, illogical, poor excuse for a narrative, and Skyrim was the worst writing Bethesda has ever done (the only well written questline in Skyrim was the Brotherhood. Everything else, was rubbish beyond comprehension). Quest design was a major step back in comparison to previous TES games, with a majority of quest having you dwell in dungeon x to retrieve/kill y. Only a few quest actually consisted of some in depth direction (Blood on the Ice for example). Combat has never been a focused in the TES games, so I don't know what people are expecting of it. But the thing about Bethesda games is that they have an emphasis on world design, because that is simply what Bethesda is good at and that's why they're so popular. Sprawling open worlds with endless activities to do (not necessarily the most well designed activities however) that immersed you to the point you felt like you were truly alive in the world of Tamriel. That's what Bethesda's main fanbase consist of. They desire vast open worlds to explore and discover hidden stories in, with no real focus on a well written actual story itself. Honestly, I question what the hell you possibly found so good at the game's story since you're calling it "amazing". Lore wise, absolutely, TES has some of the best lore around compared to other games, but the individual stories without the TES games themselves aren't very good. Overall, while Skyrim is still a great game, its not the best RPG out there. RPGs like the original Fallout games, Fallout New Vegas, Divinity: Original Sin, The Witcher, Dragon Age: Origins, and the likes of such most definitely outclass Skyrim as an RPG.

I helped out a guilty werewolf and spoke to an evil dog in skyrim. Best. Game. Ever.

In Skyrim the factions even matter more than the ones in destiny.

Edited by Rhulks Grimace shake: 12/22/2014 7:17:29 PMIf only they'd have binned the PVP aspect of Destiny and focussed all their attention on the PVE it could have been epic. Plus no talk of nerf this and overpowered that which would have been refreshing. However, it is a FPS and bungie wanted a piece of the competitive multiplayer cake. As long as PVP exists in destiny it'll never match The elder scrolls series for story and depth of character and gameplay. FACT! Edit, I will add that I do love destiny and I will continue to enjoy playing it. The PVE aspect of it anyway.

And both have more bugs than a termite infested house!
-
Seconded all the way. A single-player Destiny RPG like Skyrim would be super fun. (Or an online multiplayer arena for Skyrim...) FUUUUUUUUUS-
-
Destiny has an amazing story? I call bull, destiny has almost no story.
-
The point of tes is the exploring and the lore the main story isn't even a main focus of any of the titles, I think you miss the point of what tes games are for, the story is just stuff to feed us personally I only finished morrowinds story never closed gates in oblivion and never walked up the mountain to the grey beards o had too many other things to do like Plunder
-
Gameplay: Destiny wins World/lore: Morrowind wins imo, not Skyrim
-
destiny is fun , but Skyrim is better , and Oblivion even more so
-
Yeah, I was hoping for Elder Scrolls inspired crafting, story, and quests with the gunplay of Black. No PvEvP in this game really bothers me, too.
-
sad face... i really thought i was buying skyrim with guns (considering thats what they appeared to be marketing) when i bought destiny. Far far from it. Its too bad. The graphic views and game play are the top notch in destiny. Literally every other aspect of the game is a let down in some form or another. It really is too bad.

BioShock had an incredible story. The Witcher has an incredible story. The Last of us had one of the best storylines I've ever encountered in a video game; simple, but told in such a beautiful way. As for Skyrim, not so much. The Elder Scrolls storylines have always seemed a little childish to me. They're a little too Lord of the Rings. Being the chosen one time after time gets a little old. That being said, I loved Skyrim, but mostly for the gameplay and beautiful world. I would make up my own little narratives as I played. I believe Destiny has a very deep and well thought out story, we just haven't experienced it yet. If they really do have a ten year plan, then they need to draw it out as long as possible, and drip feed us information as we go.
