So, was No Land Beyond supposed to be a complete joke? Was it meant to be challengingly useless? Something's not right...

This was my first new exotic since the Dark Below came out, and I was pretty hyped when I found it, as a crucible reward, no less. And by the time I shot the very second round, I realized that this weapon was not going to work. It is a little more complicated than simple flat out uselessness, but for most people I talk to who have it, that's exactly what it is. But it does have its perks. It is NOT useless. It is actually one of the funnest weapons I have used in the game, funner than the Thunderlord or the Invective, and such, and it is in my opinion the first truly exotic exotic. Kills with it are extremely rewarding, and when you get a headshot, you find yourself out of your seat cheering your skill on, despite the fact that you totally just died from his friendly, but that doesn't matter, you just got a freaking headshot with No Land Beyond. Despite all of its backwardness, it actually works effectively, if used right and with a good enough and well rounded all purpose secondary weapon, and some teamwork, it actually works. But wait... it's an exotic... why on Earth wouldn't it work? This weapon is incredibly backwards. The concept is nice, but it was made completely impractical when set next to most other weapons in the game, which are usually miles more versatile and easier to use, much less the frustration. I consistently go positive using it, and it is fun, but everyone else I know who has tried, and truly tried, simply can't do it. It's the exotic that you DON'T want. I once made a skirmish team of nothing but No Land Beyond users, and no matter how we played, it was still a helpless endeavor. The cons start (on top of a very long list) with the iron sights themselves, the first to be put on a sniper rifle in the game of Destiny. They are (according to my comrades) extremely clunky, cumbersome, and block the vision and field of view way too much. I agree, but I honestly don't have that much bone to pick with it. That aspect can't be changed now, and it gives the gun a sort of style... those old cowboy repeater sights. Almost like it's not 300 years in the future. I can work with them well enough, most people get over them eventually. More important is the upgrade tree. The weapon has iron sights, so why on Earth would the only weapon mechanics upgrades be to increase its already incredible range? Isn't range the last thing that would be needed for an iron sighted weapon? And though the weapon has its uses in PvE, I can never use it there, so in Crucible, the headshot is a one hit kill. So why is the exotic upgrade to increase headshot damage? Isn't that a little unnecessary? wasteful, even? But the con that takes the cake is definitely the bolt action. It's a wonderful and truly creative, in a futuristic game, but when the reload speed is the same as the bolt cycle, something's not right. It's almost like the guardian forgets that he's using a bolt action every time he takes a shot, so he has to remember how it works again, and then by the time he's done and there's another round in the chamber, he's probably already dead. The bolt speed is unrealistically unbearable. The weapon's effectiveness for any given engagement is to take one guardian's shields down or kill an unshielded guardian, and that's it, figuring that headshots are incredibly few and far between, regardless of player skill. Combat effectiveness goes down the drain. I don't like to just dismiss the weapon as a laughable mistake and the butt of all Destiny jokes, I like to think that there is something more to this weapon. I figure that if Bungie made it so, there has to be some sort of purpose behind it (unless it really is just a complete joke, or someone dared someone else in the studio to make it and it somehow found its way into the game) While it is usable, the effort it takes to use it is not worth it to the vast majority of players I've spoken to, no matter how fun or rewarding it is to do well with it. It really must be buffed. Soon. In summary, the weapon's fun to work with, but stupidly hard and ineffective to work with, and most everything about the gun would be awesome if the upgrade tree is tweaked to actually make sense and the bolt action wasn't at a glacial speed. I really don't want to see the gun continue to suck like this and get a further bad name.
