At the beginning of our journey to become legend we follow in the footsteps of a brave Guardian that blazed the trail ahead. With the work he accomplished, we started down the path to reclaiming our moon, and healing the Traveler. This Guardian died during his trek, but not in vain. We used the intel he and his ghost gathered, and now look at what we've accomplished. We've stopped Phogoth, held off an invasion of Earth, and even defeated Crota! And it is all thanks to an unnamed Guardian that gave his life for the betterment of humanity.
You may ask, "Where can I pay my respects to this Guardian?" Well, the answer is startling. He remains in the dirt on the moon. No mission has been mounted to retrieve his body. No plans are in order to build a memorial in his honor. Instead, we step over (or even ON) him each time a Faction sends us on a bounty through the moon, or whenever we need to get 20 double kills with a fusion rifle.
To be honest, every time I step through this area I look down at this Guardian. Maybe it's because I'm in the military, maybe it's because I'm overly empathetic--even when it comes to video games, movies, or books. The thing is, it actually REALLY bothers me to see him there in the dirt.
Bungie, I'm not currently logged in to Destiny. Please use my ghost, and any of my multiple drop ships to retrieve this Guardian and bring him home. I realize the importance of remembering our past, so I think it would be best to leave something in place on the moon to show that was where our journey truly began. With us thoroughly eradicating the Hive right now, I think a team of engineers can be safely sent to the surface of the moon to build something small at the entrance to the Temple of Crota to show where he fell. Also, there should be something back at the tower to show respect to this Guardian. We should all know his name.
Edit: It's great to see people still commenting on this after so long. Couple of different viewpoints on this. Some people are like me and invest themselves in a story and character. Others, when logging on to play Destiny, are just looking for a way to pass the time. I love both; it's why gaming is so great!
I get a lot of people saying he was a scrub that died to thralls, so I'll respond to that.
First, it's not how he died, but how he lived! Second, the Speaker surely didn't tell him anything he needed to know to prepare for the mission. And if his Ghost was as dumb as ours is, it probably tripped an alarm and alerted the enemy to his whereabouts. All of our Guardians have had a death via thrall. We are just lucky our Ghost wasn't stolen before it could revive us.

Let's build a monument for that guardian tower square sign this if you want to
-
Hells yeah. I think after you complete the mission when you find him, a public event can spawn in the area to aid in retrieving him.

I appreciate the feedback from the community on this! Even though I see quite a few people that would rather "teabag that noob," I see many more that feel the same as I do. I don't think Bungie would create a custom mission for us, although that would be great. Too many people would be like, "the VoG is still broken, and you're making missions to bring dead noobs back from the moon?!" I just hope that a patch goes through and suddenly, in place of the body, we see a marker that pays tribute to the Guardian that led EVERY SINGLE ONE OF US in the beginning of our journey. Additionally, something on a wall in the Hall of Guardians that pays some respect would be icing on the cake. On an aside, to those who can't comprehend why some of us care about something like this: like everything in life (including life itself), you get out of it what you put into it. Immerse yourself in a story some time. It doesn't have to be Destiny or even a video game. Find a book and identify with the people in it. Learn empathy and compassion. Your brain can be an amazing conduit to new worlds and ideas!

Eris left him there. He was 27 and wanted to play Crota, he died there. She didn't give him a thought, and left him. The guy got bugged and can play no more. He was experienced despite being a 27, they didn't trust him, and so they failed. +Respect for this guardian.
-
They need to tie this into the Eris stuff...Bungie dropped the ball on this one (This is NOT a blam you bungie remark,I swear!!) After the DLC dropped and you went here on one of her missions she's speaking as you walk through. She mentions the place they used as a camp being the same circular tower you gathered intel from in the first moon mission and then later speaks of the first of her fireteam to fall in the valley leading to The Temple of Crota's doors. Sure,it woulda been maybe another 2 min worth of dialogue and maybe one cutscene but c'mon they could have swung that surely? All clues point to these remains being the guardian from Eris Morn's fireteam

Thank you Vell Tarlow, may we bring you home to the tower soon and build a memorial in your honor.
-
Bump, it's not like they haven't changed the landscape before, anyone remember a certain loot cave?

Isn't it Vell from Eris' Fireteam?
-
Oorah
-
i agree, bring him/her home
-
Agree. I want a memorial/grave...

Someone on Reddit compiled the grimoire and item flavour texts about Eris' fireteam. http://www.reddit.com/r/DestinyTheGame/comments/2pru7s/spoiler_eris_and_the_illfated_fireteam/ By the looks of it this guy was the titan Vell Tarlow. Slain by Vurok.

What about the millions of fallen that were slain during the battle of the loot cave. Most of them died in vain after cryptarch decided the purple orbs they dropped were actually worthless. Rip fallen (You might be the enemy but as they say :- Your enemies enemy is your friend. We hate those Hive scum)
-
U need da girl
-
It's Eris' fault he's dead - he was on her team and she let him die like the rest of them...even though she managed to find the time/way to secure their armor to give you pieces of it...if that's not shady I don't know what is! Send her to the mood to get him. I hope she gets taken by the hive in the process.
-
Make it so Bungie. Leave No Man Behind. HOORAH!

Edited by KagamiMT2: 1/1/2015 11:57:27 PMdude seriously...noone ever paid any respect to the fireteam that opened the path to finding rasputin, and you wanna pay respect to a Guardian who let himself be overrun by only a few dozen thralls?Ö_Ö
-
His fireteam had to leave him there when they got booted to orbit....
-
Well the story is garbage and you expected them to follow through with something....
-
We got his ghost so we should bring him home as well.
-
I say we name him hetan, random name I thought of right of the bat, we build a golden engram shape in his honor were he died and put his helmet and ghost above the entrance to the vanguard area with his special, and primary cross eachother and his heavy straight through the middle of the two with a blown up thrall head stuck on it.
-
He needs to be payed respect cause he couldn't hold his own against thralls? I think their is plenty of more honorable sacrifices made by other guardians.

Excellent post.

This always bothered me too.
