I hate it when people cry on the forums, but reading this they have a point...

It's all true. The hardcore, money giving players are being s##t on.

        • Very good read. Really do suggest all players reading the whole thing. Especially ppl that have come to pretty much just blindly defend the game no matter what.

        • Let me tear this apart, in the order of the article 1. Arcane and Counterintuitive systems - the author has clearly never read a D&D rule book and expects everything to be based on XP or purchase with a single currency. I like my games a little bit more complex. 2. Those that invested time into Destiny are in a much better position to take on TDB that those that didn't. What did they expect, insta-level32 if you had completed VoG once? 3. 1 week in every 6 people who didn't buy the DLC cannot do the Nightfall - just don't play Destiny that week if it upsets people as much as they claim, you clearly didn't like Destiny enough to buy the DLC anyway. 4. The people I know are running VoG for materials now to upgrade the new Legendaries, and getting gear is a disappointment. 5. Clearly the author has never levelled a weapon and dismantled it to get 5 Radiant Energies and then converted them to 5 Radiant Shards at Eris. What would be the point in any other activity dropping Radiant materials if you don't have the DLC? 6. Obviously they were lucky and got all 9 types of gun after just 3 runs through VoG. I have not been quite so lucky, I may have 6 Vision's, 5 Fatebringers and a Timepiece but after nearly 40 completions I still don't have a Foil, so I'm sure to have 189 Radiant Energies long before I have 9 different guns to fully upgrade. They state they will never get 189 Energies (takes 10-15 Raids), which is their own admission that they don't play Destiny much. 7. Raid guns have always done the same damage as Vendor guns (300), it's the special abilities that set them apart. 8. They have no idea about stat allocation. My gear ranges between 80-170 not 120-160, so another clear indication they haven't paid much attention to the actual game. If armor didn't have random stats, getting the same piece a second time would be worthless. My Titan has had 7 VoG Gauntlets now (and no boots) and each time I get another I compare it to the ones I already have and decide which ones I will invest Shards in, again no change there. 9. So you can't get lucky and hit level 32 after your first raid - boo hoo (I still hate all the people that hit level 30 on their first VoG raid, even my friends that did it! - well hate is a bit strong). It is much more likely most people will hit level 32 at the about the same time, after around 10 raids (although you could still do it after just 5 or 6). 10. Vendor armor allowed you to get to level 29 (30 - 1) and now you can get to level 31 (32 - 1), so again there is no change there, so why does it comes a surprise? It's not impossible to beat CE with a fireteam of 6 30's, but Vendor gear makes it easier. I have no idea why the first fireteam to complete CE didn't spend the first few minutes upgrading to level 31. I had 200 Vanguard and 200 Crucible Marks, 4 Factions all about 10 XP from the next Rank, and 30 bounties worth 5000 XP and a stack of Public Event rewards worth 2500 XP each, ready to turn in so I could hit 31 almost immediately. 11. 300 dmg weapons do just 10% less damage than 331 dmg weapons - the equivalent of 1 in 11 bullets missing their target. Vision, Timepiece and Fatebringers elemental damage make up for that against shielded enemies, so they cannot be compared to Rare (blue) weapons, and a 300 dmg Gjallerhorn is still better than a 331 dmg vendor legendary. 12. "The loot model doesn't benefit anyone" - lol, clearly they haven't seen all the new Legendaries that don't come from Vendors or the Raid. 13. Ha, they got every stat (except Ascendant Material) about previously upgrading an Exotic wrong. I had 15 fully upgraded Exotic weapons and another 15 duplicates. I reset 6 of these unlevelled Exotics weapons this week (turning them into better versions than they were before) and reset my Exotic armor only if it had better stats. I would have sharded my fully upgraded Armamentarium for the Discipline 167 version this week, even if it was for another Light 30 one! 14. Destination materials no longer need to be collected, you can get 20 for just 10 Marks (remember I had 1200 Marks and nothing to spend them on until now). 15. The decision not to have Exotic Energies and to be able to convert Radiant Energies to Shards were both improvements in my opinion. Those who bought Exotics, regardless of whether they levelled them up, are still better off than those that didn't, and don't get me started about those "dedicated players" that "worked" for them by simply opening a chest. Clearly this person has never played a RPG and then purchased DLC for it that renders all their "hard earned" gear inferior. 16. Bungie didn't have to provide an upgrade path for Exotics and you don't have to use it. I will probably just shard my 300 dmg Exotics once my dupes are fully upgraded and continue buying Exotic Armor and Engrams, saving me coins and Glimmer. You can carry far more than 25,000 Glimmer, just don't cash in your consumables (House Banners etc) at the Cryptarch until you need to. 17. They then infer they have 38 different fully levelled Exotics, I know they didn't buy them all from Xur, so they must be one of the people that "worked" for them by opening chests. You got your lucky free drops and now you are demanding Bungie upgrade them for free - get lost. 18. I can complete VoG on normal in just over 30 minutes now, and they want that to potentially drop 4 pieces of Light 33 armor. They then want to make VoG easier and make the armor even better than Light 33 - if I told everyone they would get a 100% pay rise and then told them tax would be dropped to 1%, of course I would get your vote. 19. Vendor's selling level 31 gear already gives players who don't Raid a progression path - *scratches head* 20. Then they go back to wanting insta-32 with the 800 Ascendant materials they have stockpiled (I kid you not, I have friends with this many) and awarding Radiant materials to people even if they don't have the DLC, which they then have to exchange.

          • I think spreading the level range out more or rethinking the level range of armor could really help. 5 Levels per Expansion. Lets use a practical example from the launch into The Dark Below with just changing the max level armors get you to: Max Blue gear gets you to 26. Max vendor gear gets you to 28. Max 2/4 raid gear gets you 29. Max 4/4 raid gear gets you to 30. Add the Dark Below: New max blue gear maxed should get 28 Max vendor gear should get 29 Max 2/4 raid gear with TDB vendor gear gets you 30 Max 2/4 new raid gear with old raid gear or new vendor gear gets you 31 Max 4/4 TDB raid gear gets you 32 This is a rough draft, but allowing old raid gear to have a bit more value in the expansion is very important. Also, for the love, change the way light level is calculated, everyone got so pumped about 33 light gear getting us to 33, until we realized it doesn't go off the average, like it appeared to before.

            • I agree with that. It was a great article. Hope Bungie takes some time at the offices to discuss it. The life and FUN is being sucked out of this grindfest game. Grind missions Grind bounties Grind the raid boss sequence until the stars align and you beat him to get 2 radiant shards Grind grind Nope And forget new iron banner. Nothing worth doing. They reset iron banner and I'd start all over again to earn....what exactly....many other players I play with said same thing. I'd love to see those player numbers in Bungies computer. They are making this game so little fun. The Crota fight sucks by the way. It's a pain in the ass and needs perfection. Once again crappy boss with two attacks surrounded by endless supply of jerk cheap ADs. Big shocker there. So one minute Luke smith says "we have to force random teleports to destroy teamwork and so everyone knows how to do each role, and it was always meant to be random"....then next raid boss is 1 guy doing the hardest most stressful sword maneuver ever while 5 other Jerks stand and shoot. Nice job. At least they didn't make one random player get the sword. Surprise your it.

              • Other's have given feedback on the gear/leveling changes more eloquently than I can. My whole 2cents: Because of the underlying quality of the design and game-play, I'll enjoy whatever kind of grind you throw at us, so long as there are fresh environments and enemies to use these wonderful weapons and talent's against. I was disappointing with the VOLUME of unique content in the DLC release, not because of the cost to value ratio, but because I was ready for a lot more or what I love! I Would love to see future DLC have more: new areas, enemies, talents, powers. I'd happily pay more or more often (monthly?) to see it.

I have gotten my money out of the game and some enjoyment. But it sure feels like this is a continuation of beta testing and a money grab to me. It would be nice to know what happened to the game bungie showed and hyped before releasing this version. What they delivered does not match with what they were showing the gaming world. If it is going to be a grind fest with little content, another raid, and COD style pvp - I would be surprised if it has much of a future. But maybe I am in the minority with these views. Perhaps they figured out that is all they have to do to be profitable and have no desire to deliver the game as it was initially hyped. It is still in the early stages - but I do not see them making any big changes to the format or content. At some point they made a decision to release the game in its current form. Since this is the main structure to build upon - I see little more than rehashed content in the future. I am rapidly growing tired with the game and just don't see it offering anything to keep my interest.

                • I personally think you should have to complete the Raid on Hard to get to the next level. This is supposed to be a journey & they instead made it as the crow fly's. I have only done the VOG on hard twice, I am far from being an exclusive type of guy but it does suck to do all this stuff & have a new destiny player jump into the same level etc & has never done the Old raid.

                • Yeah, there should be other ways to raise Eris' reputation . Also 3 Story missions just does not captivate me. The Raid is actually quite fun. The Strike mission for Omnigul was fun, but short. The Undying mind feels like it was originally a part of the main game just ripped and moved. The areas are all "recycled" , the new crucible maps are fun... especially the map that was made for like a 12 on 12 but only 6v6... snipers all day...(sarcasm). Buffing the Difficulty of enemies, recycling the maps, and having us endlessly grind over and over and over again throughout the same 3 missions just doesn't feel like DLC. Did anyone play borderlands? Did you get Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep? $15 Bucks and loads of content with non-recycled maps. Bungie I seriously pour a lot of time into this game and I love you guys hardcore. But Dayum, the content is like a shot glass out of a Kegger of potential and talent. Please pour us at least a Cup full on the next $20 spot DLC. I have 3 Consoles in my Home. I game, my wife games, and my 8 year old son games. This game captivates us and we feel that it is a great game full of potential. Full of potential. The fans simply want more, uncut, non recycled, content. I hope that this is not the "10 Year Plan" that you guys have. No one wants to purchase DLC to merely reuse the same areas over and over for 10 Years. I for some reason when I heard "Seraphim Vault" I thought damn a new type of area to explore and maybe find some loot. Total let down. I imagined soooooooo much more. I love it, but it was not worth $20 in comparison to other titles I have played. I would have spent $40 on a Full Expansion, hell even $50 if it were a Full Expansion. I do not feel as if I am alone on this one. On another note. You should add a gambling hall or Tavern with Slot machines that can reward you with Rare-Exotic items and maybe earn you ammo synth or even glimmer by using Strange Coins and Motes. I mean hell the Guardians that grind over and over would love a place to go chill and spend that loot on some machines. Xur doesn't always have what we want. This would boost some RNG chances in a fun way. Have like an Exotic of the week that you could potentially earn as a jackpot if you're lucky enough. Idk, I'm probably just pissing in the wind and my voice is falling on deaf ears but that is what the forums are for.

                  • After realizing the new game play model is just a hamster wheel, where all work is reset and vendor gear trumps raid gear feels like E. Honda just 100 fist bitch slapped me for playing so much. The more you play the more times you get slapped. Whats the point of any of it when its all wiped clean at each DLC?

This is %100 correct. This game has become a lot worse than I ever envisioned. This latest transition to this DLC with all of these updates and everything mentioned in this article was a slap in the face for anyone who spent a considerable amount of time playing this game. Having to reset exotics and having to grind and farm for more glimmer than ever before to trade in those exotics is ridiculous. This is just an artificial way to make people play this game longer, repeating the same missions still but having to level the same gear. It's a shame and a waste of time. Instead of adding updates that create more grinding with the same content how about implement things to the game to make it more enjoyable for both casual and hardcore Destiny players.

                  • I agree. I too feel cheated out of having to redo all the time I put into the game. But oh wells, let's see how the game will work. At the very least. I can use destiny as a shooter game.

                  • I'm supportive of updating Vault of Glass gear to match either vendor or raid gear. The reason being is unlike games like World of Warcraft as an example Destiny's raids do not take weeks to complete. They were both fully beaten in hours. The end game is lacking and repetitive already. The best things about this game has been the two raids. Content wise and enjoyment wise. Allowing players to continue to play a updated VoG would allow for people to further customize their load outs and their appearance while continuing to enjoy the toughest and most engaging content the game has put out to date. They did it for strikes and vendors. They should do it for raids. At least they should do it until they create enough content to not need to do this.

Interesting article. This new system is not ideal, I don't mind grinding but I now realise that collecting weapons and armour are a no no. Just keep what you need. Because I now know that in 3 months time, it will count for nothing and I will have to start again. The game has a confusing story and zero character development. Even this latest Crota's end raid didn't have one cutscene, nothing to build atmosphere, tension or drama. I don't know what Bungie are doing here, they don't seem to know themselves. Is every expansion, and lets be honest (this is not an expansion, but an add on), going to be new maps or existing missions played backwards, where we just aim, shoot, kill. If so then this game will not last.

                  • Makes you wonder.. what's the point of grinding more hours into the game to try to reach 32 if when house of wolves comes out months from now, you can probably reach 33 by vendor gear. At this rate, I think I'd rather wait..
