What you've been missing - the future of gaming

Destiny is, in part, being created by Activision - the largest company in the industry. What you all have been missing is that they are running on the new corporate model. Everything that has happened should be proof that they're making you pay to play. First, whether intentional or not, we had an overwhelming lack of content. They then promised us that we would get more from dlc's - PAY TO PLAY. Then, when the dlc came out, they locked people out of content that they originally paid for if they didn't buy the dlc - PAY TO PLAY. Now, we see a lack of content from this dlc, and they will likely tell us that they'll make up for it in the House of Wolves - PAY TO PLAY. This of course doesn't get into the psychological conditioning that gets you addicted. The random reward system that doesn't always reward you, but does so just enough so that you want to keep trying. Then, the sense of accomplishment that is tied to getting the best gear and completing the toughest challenges. Combine that with the ultimate grind fest that requires you to spend an insane amount of time gathering materials, upgrading gear, hoping for better gear drops, etc. and you find yourself constantly coming back for more. This makes you want to PAY TO PLAY. Then there's the demo system that gets you to pay for the full game before you find out its lack of content - just like the beta. This is somewhat similar to a mainly multiplayer game like Activision's Call of Duty. Because you've been playing competitively online for so long, you don't want to be left behind by not buying a few new maps. The slim content certainly isn't worth 1/3 of a game, but you pay it anyways. It is also similar to EA's ultimate team mode - trying to get the best players possible to create the best team with a random reward system and constant updates so that you're always trying to be the best. What they're all working off though is the mobile game model. If you look at it, it's all the same. You get random rewards, always work towards a never ending cap, there are constant updates, and you have to pay to play - and if you don't, you're left behind. In other words, the video game industry is changing, and not for the better. I think that Destiny is going to be one of those games that determines the near future of gaming due to its record setting budget, sales, and discussion. If all goes well with sales and people continue to buy it, the dlc, and Destiny 2, they will continue this model. If not, and it crashes soon, companies will back off this model - but only for a while. In order to reverse this trend, gamers will need to stop buying games from companies that make games this way - or at least stop buying inadequate dlc's, games that don't have enough content, and never pay to play. I know it'll be hard. Destiny is so great in so many respects, it's just not enough for a full game. I myself have put in over 400 hours into this game, but the dlc was the last straw. So what say you? Let us be the ones to save the future of gaming!

  • The thing is they cater to 13+ most young teens will still buy these games because it seems challenging to them. Meatheads and "Merica" will also buy this shit because they can't comprehend what a good game should be. Also as time goes on more people are becoming gamers, people who never got to experience first 10 final fantasies, legend of dragoon, morrow wind, fallout etc this type of game will actually stand out among the shit pile we call games. The companies who make these money sucking atrocities will never start caring about quality or quantity of the game as they sit in there Jacooze in there private helicopter on there private yacht in the swimming pool of their mansion, and since they have the bigger budgets they can have the best marketing and make there shit more shiny and flashy than a slot machine on crack, meanwhile real games like no mans sky (haven't heard of it? Didn't think so) can't afford millions to market their game so have no chance at building a decent following before the next shitstorm of flashing lights and high def explosions sucks up the masses because hell, we all want to play what our friends are playing right?
