Material Exchange Theory - Why it doesn't work

So, many people have thought, "The reason why Bungie took away turning in material (mat) for rep/marks is because it can be exploited to give you more than you should be getting in a week." I thought of this as well, but I also see it as highly inefficient, and people would be spending many more hours to buy less marks with the material they just bought. I mean, if you think of it, it's the same as saying, "I'll give you my $100 bill for your $50 bill." I understand that reputation can be gained this way, but, again, think about it. It's only 25 reputation, which you could very easily get in much less time by just doing patrol missions. Especially the patrol missions that require you to kill an exact enemy, which gives you 25 reputation. If we look at it again, and did what you said people would do, the only time they could spend more than 100 marks would be the first WEEK they did this, since each week after they can't accumulate more than 100 (unless they stopped for a week.) So, back to doing the math: 100 marks would get you 200 mats 200 mats would get you 100 rep and 20 marks, assuming you had a brand new week If you didn't have a brand new week, you just wasted 100 marks for 100 rep, so 1 rep a mark. I don't see how that wouldn't be fair. So in a week, the most you can get is 200 mats, 100 rep, and 20 marks from doing this, again ASSUMING you are starting on a fresh week. I don't see how this is an exploit... Comments/thoughts/rages/rants are all welcome, I just think this is a ridiculous theory...

  • I've just recently finished the campaign missions and started to collect reputation for one of the factions as well as light items and materials. At the moment i'm sitting on roughly 200 spin metal, 150 helium coils and assorted other materials, i'm happy with my current weapons and i've upgraded them to the max but now the materials are just there.. just there filling up space in my inventory. I don't need to buy materials that 10 marks that I'm already sitting on 150 of the same materials... It takes so much more time to earn marks than it is to collect the materials that are ultimately spent on equipment anyway.. EUHHHHHHHHHHHHH
