Why is everyone so disappointed with the "Heavy Ammo Synthesis" and Xur?
Why should one invest Motes of Light or Strange Coins if you can have it for Glimmer from the Gunsmith?
What am I missing here?
Edit: People, this post is old and pre DLC, where Glimmer was always a resource you had plenty of while just gaming but I bought a lot at Xûr back then and had less Strange Coins. Nowadays it's the other way round!

Because there's only a few exotics I don't have - HotPF, Hard Light, and Skull of Dire Ahamkara - and even if xur sold them all at once I would still have around 50 strange coins, and nothing else to spend them on except for heavy synth. Plus, I would much rather save my ever-shrinking pile of glimmer for upgrading weapons.

When you have three high level characters and all exotics you want, amassing strange coins takes less work than farming glimmer... ...while the opposite is true for those with lower level characters, or those who are still looking to buy exotics from Xur because they are unlucky with drops.

Its easy .. You have to spend 25000 Glimmer ( basically the Maximum ) for 25 Synthesis by the Gunsmith & just 5 Strange Coins for the same amount of Synthesis by Xur

When you have 3 characters and so many weapons and armor to upgrade You burn through glimmer fast and its a pain farming for it Strange coins on the other hand are much better currency

Glimmer = used for everything now Motes of light = Xur (rarely these days), Iron banner (only useful way to waste them), and speaker (please like his shit ever changes) Coins = Xur goods, but myself, and many of my clanmates if not a majority of the players have what they need for sure if not what they already want Soooooo, Why use my precious glimmer that I work hard to get to use on my hard to upgrade stuff (i.e. those 25 exotics I am still leveling up from DLC wipe) Why waste my most precious commodity, TIME, to grind out glimmer to use on something that I need to have to grind out the gear I need to use the glimmer on. <--- I know that was confusing but think about it Instead I can just earn my coin, purchase my ammo synth and get back to end-game work. Which is still a hell of a grind

I'll have just under 200 coins after tomorrow so yeah next time xur has it I'll be going mad again. I bought 140 for each class last time. Still got a few left but um runnng low now.

Because it's been 3 weeks. I bought 40 boxes for each of my characters. (120 boxes) I ran out Monday and had to use my black wax. I was at lever 200 when DLC dropped and now it's all gone. I'm now forced to do glimmer runs for a few boxes everytime I want to raid. THE GREAT HEAVY AMMO DROUGHT OF 2015 continues....

It's easier to just buy it with coins, than to grind out glimmer or black wax to buy it.

I have WAY more strange coins to spare than bunches of 950 glimmer.
