So apparently I didn't earn my gear

Ok I would like to apologise for actually making this post it was a bit whiney in itself, but hearing that after a good few hours of IB can do strange things to a man, long story short I calmed down. So, someone was nice enough to inform me today that I didn't 'earn' my gear/lvl because I'm using IB rather than VOG items, he also let me know that I probably didn't 'earn' my Last Word as I probably got it from Xurand indeed I did. Looking at the forums this seems to be a common opinion, so I'd like to put it out there too anyone who thinks, could you please explain why? I don't seem to understand why running a raid that is not particularly challenging if you know what your doing once a week for a couple hours means you earnt your gear and actually grinding IB rep does not? I actually found IB took a lot more effort on my part. Also I'd like to know what all these people with VOG gear are then doing in IB they seem to have an unfair advantage with gear they didn't earn in the crucible? As for my Last Word I don't understand how randomly being gifted it by the mystical forces of RNG counts as earnt but earning strange coins and spending them on an exotic does not?

  • The issue is that VOG was the original way to get 30. If there was other mechanics available at the launch of the game to level players up to 30, not a single person would be bitching about this whole "earning" thing. People are just mad that they can't belong in the 1% of level 30's anymore. They believe that their RNG luck makes them some kind of God compared to everyone else. The worst kind of player who believes the only way to earn your gear is to make 3 of each class, grind VOG hard, then delete your characters, re-level them up, and repeat. Then repeat this process for all 3 classes. This is the worst kind of no-living elitism. Bungie made raid lockout to avoid this issue, yet these people are seriously willing to sink 6 hours into releveling characters. Grinding for your gear, regardless of luck is a common ground in MMO's, but other MMO's do not have lockouts. The argument that "you didn't earn your gear" would have a lot more ground, If someone could say, kill Atheon an infinite amount of times per week without lockout. If this was the case, I would tell you that you didn't grind VOG hard enough. As for IB, it takes 10-15 hours to reach rank 5. That's easily 7-10 hard raid completions time wise. You earned your gear.
