Loot drops and engrams need to be updated for high-level players

I'd be stunned if folks haven't already commented on this, but it bears repeating, even if people have raised this issue - loot drops for higher-level players need to actually reflect their level. I have two toons at level 29 and one at 28. I can't count how many times this week I've decrypted a blue engram only to get a level 16 item, nor can I count how many times I've automatically deleted a green item. I can't even count how many times I've deleted a green engram TODAY. Past a certain point in the game, green drops are useless except for glimmer (because most folks have enough weapons parts and armor upgrade components). The weapon or armor is meaningless to a player who is already loaded out with legendaries and exotics. The only useful part is the glimmer, and people have to take time to delete things out of their inventory to even get that. The only reason blue items are useful is decrypting them to earn Cryptarch rank, but even that is debatable - I can't remember the last time the Cryptarch gave me a legendary engram after reaching a new rank. It's been nothing but blues for ages, and usually level 19 or so. I don't expect legendary engrams to drop with the same frequency as blues, but it would be really nice to not have to deal with green engrams and have blues drop with the frequency of green since there already seems to be a mechanic in place to prevent players who have reached a certain level from getting white engrams. Since the Cryptarch seems extraordinarily stingy with legendary engrams in his reward package for ranking up, it shouldn't unbalance anything and it would feel a lot less annoying if every loot drop at a certain point (say, level 20 items are the only items that drop once a player hits level 20 and green items stop dropping at level 24-25) was guaranteed to be a level 20 blue item or better - in other words, something that I most likely will delete instantly but that has a chance to be something that might offer some utility/use to me.

  • I feel your frustration, but honestly, I have so many Legendary and Exotic items at this point, that even getting them now, is only exciting because I can dismantle them for shards or energy to upgrade others. I think I have near 6 Exotic weapons that still need to be upgraded, and probably close to 20 Legendary, not counting the ones I've already upgraded to level 300 weapons. As I was pondering this immense collection of armor/weapon parts that I have amassed over the past few months, it occurred to me that it would be a lot less frustrating if those items could actually be used to do something cool in the game. Then I started thinking about all of these people that want ways to customize their character and it hit me... Why not allow players to customize/personalize their guardians in exchange for these items? Suddenly having tons of green engrams drop becomes more "hopeful" because you'd be saving up more armor/weapon parts for your next customization/personalization. I have detailed my thoughts regarding gear customization in another post here as well. I spent a fair amount of time thinking of all the ways that players could customize/personalize their characters, so I'd rather not post the whole list all over again. If you wouldn't mind reviewing my ideas and commenting on the thread with your own ideas, I'd sure appreciate it. I added a call-back to your post as well.
