Trading Would Break The Game

I keep seeing "petition for trading!" posts day after day, and I don't think anyone realizes it would suck the fun out of the game. While RNG can be a bitch (a merciless one at that) trading would only allow the lazy to succeed, and I don't want that. I have all 3 classes at 29 from grinding and grinding and grinding. If a friend, who was like 23 the day before, signed in at 30 the next day and was like "yeah, some dude gave me all this raid gear for some uncommon stuff" I'd be a little pissed. My friends are a prime example of lazy. Their constant need to be carried through everything and thinking that being AFK the whole time is cool because I can handle it is annoying. Now I don't mind helping, I often post on LFG just volunteering to help people with the raid even though I've completed it, but if you can't carry your own weight, you don't deserve shit. And that's what would happen. I've seen it in Diablo III and Borderlands too many times. People just unload legendary gear on you maxing your stats out and then that's it. There's nothing left to do. Earning your gear is the point of Destiny, not having it handed to you. tl;dr - people are too lazy to earn their own gear, don't give them the option to have it handed to them.

  • It would make perfect sense. This would be the reason there is an RNG system in destiny.

  • How about they not allow armor to be traded, only materials and guns?

  • You guys keep saying it would break it, if you had played a mmo then you would. Know that some mmos have a value with the item, therefore we would have to trade items of equal value.

    • Trading would make it so much easier I'm a level 31 and have done Crota around 36 times hard and normal but I can't get the chest for my hunters or guantlets for my warlock its completely random I think trading would allow others to get what they need to be help to others like others say its not the level its the skill of the player the sooner you learn that the better

    • So you are saying crappy players are going to get their 30 handed to them, get bored and stop playing? That sounds like it's a good thing, lets do it! It's not like the 30's who are no good are going to go into Iron banner and start racking up Huge K/D's because of their gear. 30 is not a badge of honor, I'm a 29 and a 30 has VERY little advantage over me in Iron banner. Sure they have an advantage in hard raid, which is really the only reason I want to get to 30 myself, so I can be effective on the hard raid and not get carried through it. Let people get all the high end gear they want, can they place their shots well? use proper tactics? have good map awareness? Those things are what determine if a player is good or not. The amazing thing is, your perceived problem requires no change of the system in order to be fixed, it only requires a change of YOUR perspective. You may eventually find this applies to many things in life, not just video games. Take this knowledge and go forth young guardian. May the Traveler's light be always with you .

      • I think there should be stipulations on it. Like raid gear is bound to your character.

      • They definitely should put an auction house in destiny. I think the game is already a huge fail but maybe that would help a little bit make it a little interesting for once.

On the other hand, having a trading system would introduce an economy to the game, requiring players to farm for glimmer and rare engrams in order to purchase or barter for the weapon that they truly want. Sure, there will always be those that just ask their friends for some rare gear, but is that really such a bad thing?

When I say "earned" I'm referring to people that have put time into the game. People who have successfully, without being carried, beaten Nightfalls and The Vault of Glass. I understand that with RNG there can be no "earning" but receiving that gear after putting X amount of time into the game kind of feels like you earned it. Whereas some lazy ass gets gear handed to them because trading was implemented and now they no longer have to bother with grinding.

I just want to trade my friend an exotic weapon for Hawkmoon. He has two. I want one... Why not just exotic trading for exotic, legendary for legendary. Fk rare or under. I hardly think that would be game breaking. Also you could limit how many weapons you can buy from Xur weekly to avoid people with high amounts of Coins from taking advantage of this. Edit: Also "Earn" and "Destiny" do not go together, even if you are not using it as an elitist term. Edit #2: Some simple fixes to the trade problem. Rarity for same rarity(ex. Exotic weapon for exotic weapon), no raid gear or weapons, nothing tradable rare or under. No upgrade materials, synthesis, or telemetry.

            • The only way to make it so its not broken. You should have to trade an item of equal value. Exotic for exotic. Legendary for Legendary and so on. As well as same goes for raid gear i think. Shouldnt be able to trade a random legendary for a raid piece. Should be a raid piece for a raid piece of gear. As it gives you light 30, has to be of equal value so would have to be a raid piece for raid piece. Thats the only way i could see a trading system work without being broken.

              • I don't think trading will ever be implemented. At least not any time soon. The acquisition of gear is part of the reward cycle to keep people playing. If the rarity of drops were kept the same and trading were implemented it would very much circumvent the reward cycle and less people would play as consistently. Consistent players keep the crucible full, players to raid with, a more dedicated out-of-game community and a larger list of people who will buy DLC and secure the financial future of Destiny. If trading were implemented and Bungie didn't want to undermine their mechanics (and possible financial future) they would have to decrease the amount of rare drops, probably rather significantly. In this sense I would probably have to spend a lot more time playing to get the gear I want.

              • Only 2 ways I see trading being possible in the game. Same quality gear for same quality gear. Except raid gear can only be traded for other raid gear. OR You do it how Diablo 3 does it. Can only trade to someone with you (in your fire team) and only when you got it.

              • AFKs, in general, would go through the roof in all game modes if trading was made available. Why? Simple reason is that as long as people are still rewarded for AFK, it provides a low-effort means by gaining items which can, in turn, be sold for monetary value. There would be so much more to actually get trading working than is realized - or at least making it both fair and balanced. Unless they can minimize exploitation and profiteering, I doubt we will ever see trading, anyhow. Since it would be so ingrained in the game, for a working system, if we were to see it - I don't think we would see it as part of this iteration of Destiny.

They only things you can truly earn in this game: story related items, faction ranks and gear, xp, strange coins/ materials for xur weapons, levels 1-20, a exotic weapon from bounty, and finally your sub class. Everything else is based on a broken/lame ass reward system, centered around a nearing endless grinding fest based on luck. As someone who played Runescape from the winter of 2009 to early spring of 2014, I know how grinding should work.

              • Rng completely eliminates the idea of 'earning'. Not sure why people think that they've earned anything.

                • I like the idea of trading, You have to find someone that wants what you have & they have to have something of desire for you. I think it would be fair since I have 3 chest pieces of kabr 3 kabr helms and 2 kabr gauntlets. If I could trade another titan with kabr boots I'd be pretty happy. I don't see a problem in it whatsoever. Literally in a month the hardcore players should all have about the same stuff. You've put to much negative thought into it.

                • I think you meant to say Trading would cause the game to be more broken. Possibly, but in order to trade, you have to have something to trade. AND, to have something to trade, you have to play the game as much as others to "earn" something worth trading. Although, thanks to RNG, some players are better "earners" then others.
