The Truth from Someone Who Has Handled It For A While

Once upon a Xur day a long long time ago... I saw a post about Patience and Time, which Xur happened to be selling that day. See, the odd/wonderful thing about it was that it wasn't about dividing the community between self-imposed terms such as 'earners' and 'non-earners'. It was simply a review of the weapon from someone that had used it in the spirit of informing everyone who had/has not. I'm just someone looking to continue that tradition. On to the task at hand. The Truth was the first exotic I ever received. It came in the form of a legendary engram in the mail after a particularly dastardly round of crap shoot versus the Cryptarch - these were the days of the old version 1.0 Cryptarch, The Tyrant of the Tower, The Butcher of Engrams ... you get the point. Anyway, the legendary heavy weapon engram I got from levelling up the Cryptarch turned into the Truth. Gjallarhorn may be the king of launchers but the Truth is very powerful in it's own right. It has a quick reload speed and it's rate of fire allows you to fire off your two rockets in quick succession. It laughs in the face of Void shields as it punches through them with ease and cuts right to the enemy's health bar with the first rocket - very useful when doing weekly heroic or nightfall when Void burn is active. Also useful in the Vault of Glass where the Vex all use Void shields. Praetorians and Minotaurs will be begging you to lie to them. When upgraded with the ability to detonate rockets early based on proximity to targets and the ability to track targets if you launch while aiming down the sights the Truth can really start to beast. The most useful feature of the Truth, compared to most other launchers, is that it becomes very easy to hit the target you were aiming at. In PvP it becomes a matter of simply firing at your intended target as soon as you see them rather than spending precious seconds calculating where best to aim for a moving target. The rockets travel quite fast, making them hard to dodge, and detonation based on proximity combined with a decent amount of splash damage gets the job done. Although not having as wide an area of effect as the Gally (there is no escaping that thing) if tightly packed enough you can kill a group of 2 or 3 Guardians with the Truth. In summary it's a very good launcher to use in PvP due to it's proximity based warheads and it's tracking ability. Also, If you happen to be doing the Thorn bounty the Truth becomes indispensable. In PvE it may not do as much damage on impact as the Gally, which splits into submunitions that do extra damage upon impact, but it is none the less a great launcher to use because it almost never misses getting a hit on the target you aimed at. Have fun out there.

  • I'm going to grab it. I have Gjalahorn already as solar dmg. So, I will keep my exotics in one slot and switch between the two for whichever elemental damage I need.

  • My buddy got Truth to drop early on. I got Gjallarhorn to drop early on. The advice on which one is best? 0 exotic launchers = get the first one you can 1 exotic launcher = You dont NEED the other.

  • thanks for the review. Got a question about the proximity thing though. In PvE, it seems like the worst thing you'd want. Every time I fight a villain I'd need a rocket for, trash is constantly throwing itself in front, like inhuman shields. It would drive me nuts to fire a rocket at a boss and some shank ends up getting hit instead. Does that not happen? Because when I did the Nightfall this week phalanxes endlessly jumping in front of every shot I had on Tu'uarc.

    • When maxed out it kills a praetorian in shot. That's all you need to know.

    • It's crap, damage is very close from my legendary-void-target-tracking-rocket-launcher. Even its huge blast isn't better than Gjallahorn tracking cluster. Just drop it and use the Gjallahorn, it's more usefull whatever situation you're in. This guy obviously doesn't know what he's talking about. If you don't believe me, you just have to try both on a ultra pretorian (gjallahorn makes a LOT more damage , while it's fire and not void). Only interest? Void nightfall, but i haven't seen any significant extra damage comparing to my legendary void rocket laucher. Don't even bother upgrading it.

      • Thanks for this. It's also important to note that the Truth is the only exotic to deal void damage. So it is very effective against Praetorians. So for VoG it may be a good idea to bring it along instead of other heavies.

              • Great read. I got my Truth from the Nightfall this week and was already happy with it, but after reading this I'm even more excited to level it up. It will keep me delighted until I'm lucky enough to get Gjallarhorn.

              • I was lucky enough to get it from a legendary engram a few days ago, haven't got it upgraded yet but will do after Time and patience, I'm usually more of a MG guy but love the perks the truth has as a RL

              • I have truth and galley but I choose not to use them in pvp bcuz u don't always have heavy ammo and when u do it runs out pretty quickly for rocket launchers so ya the swarm provided much more useful while doing the thorn bounty

              • I have had the Ghorn since the first time Xur Sold it. I have only used it in PVP but please bear with me: The Ghorn is amazing at pvp yes. But if you ever catch yourself in the midst of one, the best way to avoid it is to make yourself visible for just a second...then jump behind a wall. The Ghorn cannot go around corners...however it WILL curve upwards if you blink. So you can actually "bait" yourself, to force the user to use up his rockets...and then go in for the kill. Just make sure you can get behind a wall quickly! Do not...i repeat...do NOT stand in the open thinking you can blink away fast enough. I have had so many people try to outsmart Ghorn on that earth map while they try to snipe at me...dont snipe at me!! my gun will find you! BAIT BAIT BAIT to make me use up my rockets.
