Destiny 2 already on the way? Seriously?

Bungie... are you kidding? Wait, before I start let me make a few things very clear: - I am no game developer, I have exactly zero knowledge when it comes to making games, I just like playing them; - Usually I don't like complaining, but I think this must be heard; - I love Destiny. Now, where was I? Oh yea, Bungie... are you kidding? I know it can probably take up to 4 or 5 years of development before a product is finally finished, but already working on Destiny 2 when there's still so many bugs to fix, and features and content to add in 'Destiny 1' that has only been out for about 2 months? With all due respect Bungie, that's just insane, and a big middle finger to the Destiny community. I don't like to be the kind of guy that tells awesome companies what to do, I'm just a fan of the product you know, I don't understand any of your business. But I think, if I may, it would be a better idea to polish 'Destiny 1' first. You know... add some more content to the existing planets (would like to see other locations that Old Russia, let's say a bit of North-America perhaps?), add some more planets in general, add some more armors, some more weapons, some more missions, some more strikes, some more raids, some more social options, some more spawn points in patrol mode, some more... Ahh well, who am I to talk right? I'm just that stupid gamer who only wants to have more and more without having to pend 'too much' money on a game. Don't get me wrong Bungie, I love your work, I really do. I've gotten a shit ton of respect for every single employee that worked on the game, but this news just makes me angry and feel like I'm just some sack of money you're trying to take by pumping out games every 2 years or whatever. Keeping hopes up it's not gonna be a Call of Duty sellout. Now, maybe I've started talking too soon. Maybe Bungie already started its development but needs at least 5 or 6 years to release it. Anyway, I would like to hear what the community has to say about this. What do you guys think? Kind regards EDIT: So I guess the point of my post wasn't really clear. I WAS concerned about the fact that, with this announcement, Bungie would not be paying enough attention to the current game. Apparently the community's got nothing to worry about it, but like I stated: I don't have any knowledge regarding game development. I still love Destiny, and I still play everday. Problem solved.

  • Didn't they say they were making a Destiny Game every 2 years, and there will be 4, what are they doing for the extra years? And they area making a Comet for Every Destiny game launched within 12 years of the respective Destiny Game, they are still doing Comets, Right? Right? I guess we'll have to wait until E3 2015. And yeah I think it's kinda soon to be releasing a New one, Destiny is a Great game, with so much lost potential, I wonder will 2 years be enough?

  • It's not surprising at all that the follow up game is in development. I'd image that it has been for quite some time. We know that Destiny has a pretty large development team, so I assume that they're split up to have people working on all aspects of teh project. That means that work on Destiny 2 won't be taking people away from work on the current game or it's expansions. That's not how work on projects like this is usually divided. So this shouldn't be a surprise for anyone and it shouldn't have any effect on stuff like raid fixes, PVP balancing, DLC content, or any other aspect of the current game. There's no reason to be alarmed or concerned.

    • You are aware that bungie and activision have massive teams working on SEVERAL titles and rendentions at once? I'm sure they have a team for DLC, bug fixes, sequels.. The list goes on.. How is this a surprise to anyone? It broke sales records launch day. That's a garuntee it'll get a sequel. Hell they spoke of sequels BEFORE the release.

    • Think of it as an assembly line. You make a product and as it goes down the line it gets built upon. But as soon as it goes to the next step you are starting on the next one. Games are the same way. How you think a new CoD is released every year?

    • Different people working on preproduction than in progress support, so nothing lost on the current Destiny.

    • In their defense, they did say in the same article that they are also working on future expansions.

    • Why is nobody surprised every time a new CoD goes under development almost instantly after a new one is released? It's called supply and demand folks.

    • The time frame of 4-5 years to create a game is mostly correct, this is the time scale for scatch building a game. Most of that time is modelling assets(weapons, enemies, buildings and the like). Bungie have the engine, they have most of the run of the mill assets, so development will be relatively swift. Think of Destiny 2 more like an expansion pack rather than a full game for development purposes. Yes Destiny has numerous issue, most of which can not be fixed now, content can continue to be added but it'll never be enough. Without the constraint of odd tech moving forward to next gen console only Destiny 2 can be a re-invisioning of the game, sadly those that have already turned away from Destiny are unlikely to pre-order or purchase Destiny 2. The damage is done and only something truely masterful will change Bungie's fall.

How does this not make sense to you? You nitpick every little thing then stand on your digital soapbox demanding change because this is Murica and if you took any time to research and READ you'd know that 4 games in 10 years time would make quick turnarounds for each installment. So, Bungie's team has stated that they are making changes according to fan feedback and D1 would be fixed and patched over time. Also, D2 would take everything wrong and/or right with D1 and either expand or abandon them... And yet you contradict a your complaining. The real question you should be asking is, can YOU ever be happy with anything or are you just here to piss and moan because you have an avenue to do so?

Yeah, file this under #duh An anecdotal comment in a meeting is a long way from an official announcement but of course they are working on it. How do you have a 10 year plan without a.... plan... I bet someone has some stuff that says "Destiny 3" on it at Bungie too...
Now, maybe I've started talking too soon.
Yep

      • You realize that games take 2-3 years to make right? They need people pushing through the next game out the pipe.

This is normal, my only concern is if they gut the d1 team to work on d2 now means we will have nothing beyond the paid dlc to look fwd to until d2, meaning the game will be dying come q2/q3 2015...and I mean terminal, leaving gap potentially to d2

makes sense to me, the previous generation consoles are holding destiny 1 back, hopefully destiny 2 cuts that dead weight.

          • I would also like to point out that there's a big possibility that Destiny 2 will be a major expansion to the world they are already building on. It most likely won't be an entirely new stand alone game like call of duty. It will be more like Burning Crusade was to Wow. Probably addition planets and features added to the original game and you will continue to grow your original character.

          • CoD comes out once a year, no one bats an eye. Destiny goes into "development" not to be released for another couple years, people lose their shit.

            • Chill out, they have to start early if the next sequel is to be released in say 2-3 years time, it's alot of work to do to create a game, sure they will already have to groundwork and foundations from this game but they would need artists, level designers, coders, story writers all starting to produce ideas and early models to work from. They will still be supporting this game, will the dlc's coming out they will have a sizable team still working on those and other teams On support and debugging etc. It's usually pretty normal for games companies to work on sequels even as the first game launches.

            • Dev teams split up to work on DLC, maintenance, and new games. This is always how it works. Game freak has 3 teams working on 3 pokemon games at the same time. This is nothing new, and people like you are jumping to conclusions without knowing anything.

            • Part of the Dev team almost always starts working on the next project even before the first game is out. That's how it works. If the "development" of the sequel starts, it doesn't mean that suddenly the former is just abandoned. All three LoTR movies were filmed simultaneously, and the same with games. If one part of the team has finished their part of the DLC:s, why would they NOT put their efforts into the next game? You gotta realize that AAA games aren't done by one person, or even one coherent team. They are a big company, if they didn't start working on the sequel now, it would be hella late.

              • If you use the google machine you can find the original contract between Bungie and Actvision from 2010 that pretty much lays out the development for the Destiny games and DLC. If you research stuff like this wouldn't come as a surprise when it happens
